Sweet! If you looked up this word in the dictionary, Britney’s face would be there. She is absolutely the most loving dog her foster parents have encountered. She greets everyone from perfect strangers to toddlers to the vet with a Springer butt wiggle and gentle kisses. This sweetie pie came to MAESSR from Maryland when her owners had to move overseas and could not bring her along.
Britney is housetrained and will go to the door if she needs to be let out. She believes that she should be allowed on the furniture but is content to lie on a dog bed if told to do so. She also shows a lot of interest in the counters, although she’s too short to be an effective surfer. Britney is crated at night and settles after a few minutes. Her foster parents noticed her barking a lot when they left and returned to the house each day if she was crated. Since her house manners have been without fault, they decided to grant Britney free run of house. Now when they arrive home at the end of the day the house is quiet because Britney is curled up on the sofa in the living room, sleeping!
While she is in good health overall, Britney does have some weight to lose. She has a fairly petite bone structure, but weighed in at 51 pounds. The vet felt that her maintenance weight should be around 35-38 pounds. With reduced food portions and some increased activity, Britney will be able to slim down to a healthier size. Getting more exercise shouldn’t be a problem, as Britney has shown that she really enjoys going for walks and has excellent leash manners.
Britney gets along well with the other four dogs in her foster home, a mix of male and female Springers from one to four years old. She stays out of any scuffles that might take place and tries to get involved in the games of Springer tag and wrestling that take place outside. Britney has shown a lot of interest in the cats at her foster home but absolutely no aggression. She is clearly quite curious about them and likes to sneak up on them to get a sniff in when she thinks they aren’t paying attention. If kitty turns around when Britney is sniffing, she quickly turns tail and run away!
Britney is a smart girl who knows “sit,” “give paw,” and “off.” She rides nicely in the car, although she may need a boost to get in. She doesn’t guard food or toys from people or the other dogs in her foster home. Britney is fine with having her ears cleaned and her nails clipped. She even sat patiently through her foster mom’s first attempt at home grooming. What a good girl!
An easy-going girl, Britney could fit into almost any home. Her ideal forever home would definitely include kids, and maybe another dog or cat. She also needs someone that can commit to maintaining appropriate limits with her food and giving her the exercise she needs so that she can live a long and healthy life.
