Updated 8/1/05: Britney is making very good progress in her foster home. She has been doing much better with housetraining and is only having occasional accidents at this time. She usually won’t stay out unless someone is with her. Butterflies, toys, bugs, other dogs and especially leaves are very distracting, too, so spending the time with her is important. Her reason for being out seems to be clicking now.
She loves water and running. She has done some pointing, too, when she hears things. She will jump on the other dogs, trying to get them to play with her and luckily, the younger ones don’t mind her. She is not quite as frantic if her people get up and move or leave the room. She does follow, though, and always wants to be on someone or close. She will politely sit for all her treats and comes when called. She hasn’t really destroyed anything but likes to carry things around, such as stuffed animals, shoes or socks. She likes to chew and rip up paper also. Phone books can be at risk!
Britney remains very sweet and just loves everyone. Her eyes are almost a green color and gorgeous. She can be a little charmer and will soon be ready to charm her forever family………..forever!!!
Original: Hard to imagine but this springer baby was taken into a shelter in central Pennsylvania as a stray. Britney is adorable! She is a typically high energy springer pup. Her health is good and she has a tail which is just starting to get some feathering on it.
This little one has been through a lot in her short life. She was adopted recently from the shelter into a home with cats. Her new owner panicked when she found Britney with her mouth around a cat’s neck. She was returned to the shelter, but after seeing Britney, her MAESSR foster mom is sure she was just trying to “play” with the cat. Other potential adopters thought she was high strung, but to an experienced springer family, she’s a puppy!!
In her foster home Britney lives with younger puppies, plays with them well and is quite gentle with them. She is great with puppies older than herself and with adult dogs. She likes to play ball and does pretty good with fetching, but she also likes to carry it or another toy around. She is a little mouthy at times but not bad for a puppy. She just loves to play and run around.
Britney does have LOTS of energy and is also quite anxious at times. She loves people and loves attention. She does not leave her foster mom’s side. She jumps onto laps and has to be right by her people. She does jump on people at times when she shouldn’t, so her foster family is working to help her learn how to be polite. She is not totally housetrained but she is making progress. At times, she has excitement and submissive urination, so for a while some accidents are to be expected. Britney will need a very patient, loving home with someone with her most of the day. And another young dog to play with would be ideal.
Britney is really a sweetheart and a little beauty. Puppies need lots of attention and patience. They all need daily coaching from their families in basic obedience and can benefit immeasurably from classes that continue their socialization with other people and dogs. Britney will thrive with a family who is committed to finishing what her foster family has only just begun. But like all puppies, she will be lots of fun for the family who is prepared for her!!
