Original: Brandy came into rescue because she was not doing very well with the human toddlers in her home. The children were ages 1 and 3. Brandy resented it when they invaded her space and would growl at them. She was fine when she approached them, but if the children came towards her, she didn’t like it. Not surprisingly, it is reported that she is wonderful with all adults and craves their attention. She even does fine with the neighborhood children that do not live with her. Brandy’s foster mom would recommend that she is not placed with children under the age of 13. Brandy was also getting less attention than she used to since the children came into her family. She used to run off lead with her dad, but he hasn’t had much time for that lately. This may be a part of her changed behavior too.
Prior to coming into foster care, Brandy had little experience with other dogs At first she was not very happy with the resident dogs in her foster home and would growl at them. After a week, she is doing well with the other dogs and has even tried to get a couple of them to play with her! Brandy also had no prior experience with cats. Her foster mom introduced her to a couple of cats and after glancing at them, she ignored them. Yeah!!
Brandy is house trained and has full run of the house. She doesn’t dig, chew, counter-surf or jump the fence. She may beg a little and jump on people in excitement. She has been crate trained and loves to go to her crate to take a nap or just rest. She knows “sit,” “shake,” and “stay.” Brandy walks well on leash with a choker collar and does well off leash when on a run. If she is out for an off leash walk though, she will run away if she sees another dog. The temptation is just too much for her. Brandy does well at the groomer and loves car rides. She likes to chase a ball or Frisbee and sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom.
Brandy has everything it takes for a dog to live comfortably in a home as part of a family. In her case, the children just need to be middle school age or over. She is an active, middle age gal who would welcome someone to play with, be it, other dogs or the new humans in her life.
Perhaps you need a running partner this spring or just a well-mannered companion. Brandy is ready for it all!!
