Brady is one happy boy and it is not just because he experienced a gorgeous 60-degree day and took a two-mile hike. Life is wonderful now and it shows!
Brady had no problems with having 21 teeth removed; if one didn’t know he had surgery, it would not be obvious because he was cheerful and back to happy tail-wagging the very next day. Brady is enjoying the canned food mixed with softened dry chow while his gums heal. The resident dogs are envious! Some bothersome skin tumors were removed at the same time as his dental work.
Every day Brady feels a bit better; his foster mom is amazed to see the daily changes. He now jumps up on her when she comes home, happily greeting her with the resident dogs. He’s also playing by chasing tennis balls. Unfortunately, as he feels better Brady is discovering that paws placed on the drawer handles of the kitchen cabinets put his nose right up to counter level! Cockers might not be expert at counter-surfing due to short legs, but that doesn’t stop this boy from checking out any food that is up there!
Thanks to MAESSR, Brady is a new dog with a wonderful life ahead. Those decaying teeth were uncomfortable and, on top of that, the vet found out that he has dry eye, which also can be very painful. Daily drops are all that he requires to keep his eyes feeling fine. It is a regimen that he will need for the rest of his life.
Now that his stitches are removed and his fur is filling back in, Brady is just as beautiful on the outside as he is on the inside. Sweet kisses, racing up the stairs, fetching tennis balls, trotting ahead on walks off leash – Brady is happy and living life to the fullest. All he needs now is a forever home, preferably one (he hopes) with lower kitchen counters!

Brady was found as a stray and taken to a shelter by the police in Pennsylvania with a badly overgrown coat and nails. The shelter cleaned him up and called MAESSR because his long ears, docked tail, and coloring were typical of a liver and white English Springer Spaniel. Brady, however, is a beautiful English Cocker Spaniel. The shelter did not care and were happy to find him a place to “spend his last days;” they assumed he was in very bad shape. When his foster mom picked him up at the shelter, she was surprised to find that Brady was happy and energetic, wagging his stub of a tail, giving her kisses, and flipping over for a belly rub. The shelter staff was also amazed since he had been so sad and reserved for them. Guess this boy knew that his luck had turned when he was “sprung” from the shelter by MAESSR.
And in typical MAESSR fashion, that was only the beginning of Brady’s good luck streak. He is in need of a major dental cleaning and maybe some teeth extractions due to a lot of tarter and stinky breath. At the same time he will hopefully have a few skin tumors that bother him removed. Other than needing some cosmetic work, Brady appears to be in good health with much spring in his step for a senior. He even jumps up on the couch to nap with the resident dogs or sit in his foster mom’s lap if she has the space.
Brady is housetrained and has free run of the home while his foster parents are at work. He gets along great with the resident crew and was wonderfully calm and cooperative for grooming, car riding and vet exam. Brady likes his leash walks but is hoping that the weather will improve soon!
