Brady came to MAESSR from a Pennsylvania home where the owner had to give him up because he was working multiple jobs to take care of the family’s medical bills. Although Brady had been with the family since he was an eight week old puppy and he was loved very much, the owner did not feel that Brady was getting the attention and exercise that he deserved, as Brady was spending up to eight hours at a time in his crate while the owner was away working.
This sweetie is very accepting of both people and other dogs. In his original home he lived with a three year old and a five year old and he routinely played with the neighbor’s five year old Lab. In his foster home Brady gets along well with resident Springer. On the feline side of life, Brady chases cats and also chases wild rabbits. During his short time with his foster family, they have observed that Brady knows a few commands like sit, come, and shake. Very receptive to training with treats as a reward, he quickly sits when his food is served, but his foster parents are working with him on a quick sit before being allowed to go outside. Some fine-tuning with obedience training and leash walking would be beneficial to both Brady and his forever family, helping them to bond and for Brady to know what is expected of him.
Brady likes his daily, thirty-minute morning walk, but it appears that he is not used to a lot of exercise. So, his foster family is taking it easy so Brady can build his stamina. He does pull on the leash a bit and gets excited when he sees a squirrel. In the car, Brady is the perfect passenger and he has no problems with being brushed or bathed.
It is evident that Brady was well taken care of and was given a lot of attention. Outside, he likes to play fetch and inside he is starting to play with other toys. Since he loves attention and likes to be petted, he is more than willing to sit by his person’s side and have his tummy rubbed or his ears scratched.
Housetrained and crate-trained, Brady sleeps in his crate during the night with no problem, without even a whimper. When left for a short period of time, he has the run of the house with the resident ESS; otherwise, he is happy in his crate when his foster parents are gone for a longer period of time. With nice house manners, Brady has not shown any signs of wanting to get into the trash or to counter-surf. He is not allowed up on the furniture, but he is quite happy to lie next to his foster parents while they watch television.
Brady is a great guy who would fit in well with an active family where he is involved in their activities, especially if it involves playing outside!
