Update 07/28/10:
Brady continues to do very well in her foster home. She loves being with her human foster brothers, but is just as happy to lie down and sleep. Her foster mom spent a while rearranging the cat and dog beds on the floor. Once she had finished, Brady selected the cat bed to be her own. It is funny because she has these other large, cushy beds but she prefers to sleep curled up on the cat bed where she just fits – what a cutie!
This girl is very much into her routine. She gets excited when it is time to go outside and knows to sit calmly to have her leash put on. If it is only time for a potty break and not a full walk, Brady quickly attends to her business and then returns to her foster mom’s side, awaiting direction. She follows her foster mom’s lead and is very obedient. Like any good Springer, Brady loves to get her treats when it is time.
Although her foster mom has been working with her on decreasing her counter surfing and trash picking, she is still not 100% trustworthy. Brady has stopped begging her foster mom for food while she eats, but continues to hope that her human foster brothers will give her a taste of what they are enjoying.
Brady is a sweet, calm dog who would do well almost anywhere. She is very easy to care for. If Brady could speak, she would probably say, “I am just happy to live with someone who takes such good care of my needs. I am going to show them how grateful I am by being the best English Springer Spaniel I can be. People food is the only thing that steers me from my path. Have you ever tasted it? It’s really yummy!”
Wouldn’t you like to make this Brady part of your bunch?
Update 06/21/10:
Over the last few months Brady has adjusted very well to life in her foster home. It can be very quiet at times or very loud at times when the sons, who are 12 and 13, are home. Brady is definitely a Velcro Springer. She follows her foster mom everywhere, yes, everywhere, even into the bathroom. A half bath is very small so Brady’s foster mom has had to teach her to lie outside the bathroom instead of across her feet.
Being a senior Brady will lie down on one of the cushy dog beds and take long naps when her family sits down for quiet time like reading, working on the computer or watching TV but she is never too far away. Brady loves the sons and will make herself a lap dog if one of them sits down on the floor. Yes, she is a little big for this, but she never lasts on a lap very long because the boys never sit still for too long.
Brady has gotten along very well with the resident dogs from the start. They haven’t had one bit of a problem together. She gets along with the cats by mainly ignoring them.
Brady’s foster family couldn’t ask for more when it comes to her leash manners. Brady walks extremely well. She does have two bad habits, but don’t we all have a few bad habits? She loves people food and will counter surf almost every chance she gets. Her foster mom has been working with her on this but doesn’t see much improvement. Clear counters in her adopting home may lead to a final defeat of her persistence. Brady also will try to get the food out of the trash can although she’s been outsmarted when it comes to this.
Brady suffers from chronic ear infections, although her ears have improved with some medication, a thorough cleaning from the vet and ear cleaning by her foster mom every other day. The frequent cleaning will need to be part of regular care for Brady. The vet stated that her ear drums look healthy so they have not been affected. Brady has a small cyst on her belly that was biopsied. The cells in the cyst are benign so there is no reason to remove it. Otherwise, she is a happy and healthy girl.
Brady is ready and waiting for someone who wants a family dog. She wants a home where she can be with her people and be in the midst of the comings and goings. She has a wealth of energy and lots of love to give and will easily slip into any home that opens hearth and hearts to her.
Original:
Brady’s owners felt they could not give her and her housemate Bailey XVI the time they deserved due to a busy family life with a two year old; so, both Springers came into MAESSR’s care. Both have obviously lived the good life. Good times will continue for them since MAESSR will make sure the second phase of their lives will be filled with happy days of butt-wiggling rubs and snuggles in their forever homes.
Following her foster mom everywhere she goes, Brady is very much a Velcro Springer. While she did not appreciate the in-your-face nature of toddlers in her original family, Brady enjoys living with older children in her current living environment. Her foster mom feels she would be fine in a forever family with children over the age of ten or even in a quiet household with just adults. Very affectionate, Brady loves to be with her people. She is a good companion in the car and she also enjoys her walks without any pulling on the leash.
Brady gets along with the resident Springer and with the other senior foster Springer in the house. A new experience for Brady is living with cats! At first she was afraid of them, but now she is getting used to them and doing well! Good girl, Brady!
Brady is getting a refresher course in House Manners 101 since she will counter-surf and get into the trash. Her foster mom has been reminding her that well-behaved seniors do not do those things! She is housetrained and, at one time, was crate trained but has not needed to be crated for a very long time.
Brady did not particularly care for her trip to the vet since she had ear infections. Once the treatment for these infections is complete and her ears no longer hurt, she may have a better attitude toward the vet. She also has a cyst on her stomach and a skin tag near her tail that the vet will recheck in a few weeks.
Watch for more on Brady as her personality unfolds in her foster home and as she recuperates from her ear infections.
