Update 10/21/09: Bosco continues to do well. He had some surgery and his teeth cleaned and he really perked up after the recovery period. His family does have to keep diligent about food on the counter and kitchen table, or he will help himself! They continue to work in this, but Bosco’s new owner should be aware he will counter surf if given the chance!!
He sometimes will bark if he can’t find his people but, once his family lets him know they are still there, he is fine. He doesn’t do this when they leave for work, and he is quiet while they are gone. He doesn’t bark when people knock on the door or just walk in. In general, Bosco is very quiet and rarely barks inside or out.
When he first arrived at his MAESSR foster home, Bosco was intensely interested in the resident cat and wanted to playfully chase. Fortunately for all, Bosco and the cat have come to an agreement. While he is really interested in the cat, the novelty has worn off and they are getting along great. Earlier while with the Brittany rescue, he did not bother resident cats either so, for adopters with doggie-savvy cats, Bosco would likely need a little time to adjust but has proven he can live peacefully with feline companions.
When meeting people, he is a gentleman. Bosco doesn’t jump on people and hasn’t met anyone he hasn’t liked! His family hasn’t had a chance to child test him, but he doesn’t seem bothered by the neighborhood kids. He knows sit, down, and is working on stay and come. He is easy going, laid back, a true pleasure to have around! To enjoy the pleasure of Bosco’s company in your home, please ask about adopting this sweetie!
Original: Bosco began his journey towards being a MAESSR boy in Ohio where he had been living outside. His owner relinquished him to a shelter where a Brittany rescue group pulled him thinking he was a Brittany. He was fostered by a Brittany rescue family who then realized he was a sweet, Velcro Springer! A transport was arranged to a MAESSR foster family and Bosco officially became a MAESSR Springer!
His MAESSR family agrees that Bosco is a great boy who has been a very nice house guest. He gets along well with the resident dogs. When he was in the Brittany rescue’s care, he did not bother the resident cats; however, in his current foster home, he is pretty intense about the resident cat, to the point he can’t think of anything else. Bosco doesn’t want to hurt her, just chase her! So much of how a Springer gets along with cats is based on the resident cat’s personality. His previous foster home had an 8-year-old neighbor girl with whom Bosco got along wonderfully. He has had no exposure to children in his current foster home.
Housetrained and crate trained, Bosco has not had any accidents although the Brittany rescue foster home did note some marking in their home where they had male dogs. Now, Bosco’s foster family just has females and has not had this problem. Initially, Bosco has been crated while his people are away, and he does fine. Recently, his foster parents have been giving him some freedom in the house during their absence and he has been a responsible boy. At night, he sleeps next to the bed on a blanket.
When it comes to food, Bosco has had no issues with people or dogs. Interested in human goodies, Bosco has tried counter surfing, but his foster parents are discouraging this. Bosco behaves well when his feet and ears are being handled although he has not been to the groomer yet. He doesn’t appear to know any commands but should learn with ease as he is a smart boy. On the leashed walks he has been on, Bosco has behaved well. For running and sniffing, though, he really likes his fenced yard. He has not been on too many car rides yet, but he was a good passenger for his transport. A cuddler and a Velcro dog, Bosco likes to be near his foster parents. He thinks that Springer seating privileges include the couch, but his foster parents are willing to let it slide. After living outside for seven years, hey, a little luxury feels good!
Do you have room in your home and heart for this loving Springer?
