Update 06/25/12:
In the spirit of the upcoming July 4th holiday, Miss Bonnie “pawed” her decision to leave foster care with the Grutizius family, in favor of “rescuing” them forever. With a nod from her adopting family, Bonnie’s declaration is shared. May this union be perfect and long-lived!
From Bonnie………
When in the course of MAESSR events, it becomes necessary for one Foster Springer to dissolve the foster bonds which have connected her to her Foster Family, and, to assume among the powers of MAESSRLand, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Canine Responsibility would bestow upon her, a decent respect for the Adoption Coordinator and the Foster Home Coordinator requires that she should declare the causes which impel her to break the Foster connection and become an independent canine among the other canines at her Foster Family.
I hold this truth to be self-evident, that all Springers are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Canine Happiness – that to secure these rights, Families are instituted among Springer Rescues, deriving their just love from the consent of the rescued Family. In this regard, I therefore bestow upon my new Mom and Dad all the love and affection that I have within me, and, they agree to treat me with love, affection, a snuggly bed at night, two healthy meals a day, health checkups, occasional treats, and, they also will allow me to have unconditional love and affection for my 3 new brothers and 2 new feline friends.
I, therefore, as my own Representative of English Springer Spaniels everywhere, do in the name of Canine Independence, hereby rescue the Grutzius Family, and all pertaining therein, as to Jean, Chuck, Topher, Buddie, Sport, Cooper, and K.C., and adopt them as my own Family, with all the rights and privileges thereunto pertaining.
Pawed this 21st day of June in the Canine year 8066, also known as the year 2012. With no forbearance on the part of any Springer anywhere, I do adjudge and hereby claim forever to be a happy and loving Springer with my Rescued Family.

Although Bonnie and her sibling Clyde had lived with their Virginia owners since puppyhood and played well with the owners’ grandchildren, they were too energetic for their elderly owners to handle so they were relinquished to a Virginia shelter. Shelter staff gladly transferred them to MAESSR’s care knowing they would soon have loving new homes.
Bonnie is a wonderful sweetheart who loves people and attention. There are multiple dogs in Bonnie’s foster home and she has done very well with them. In her original home, she and Clyde were kept in the fenced yard during the day and put in kennels in the basement at night. As much as she does enjoy being outside, she will pick being inside with her family every time!
Housetrained and trustworthy, Bonnie has done very well in her foster home and has not had any accidents She is crated at night and is walked several times a day in her yard. When she is outside, she likes to hunt for things so she does pull on the leash. In her forever home, Bonnie will need a little review of leash manners. Bonnie has gotten car sick a couple of times, but seems to be doing better the more times she is in the car. With a little more practice, her foster parents think she will be fine.
Just as her Scottish name suggests, this sweetheart is a healthy, robust girl who will certainly steal your heart! Invite Bonnie into your life.
