Update: 11/02/2017: “Bogey loved Halloween!  He enjoyed meeting the children and saying hello.”

This funny boy continues to be a charmer, endearing himself to everyone.  He had a trip to the groomer where he did very well.  The groomer was very patient with him as Bogey had to lie down periodically to rest…old age has its privileges!  His foster parents will get him on a more regular grooming schedule so his appointments will not take so long.  

Bogey loved Halloween! He enjoyed meeting the children and saying hello.  Before his foster mom got a chance to put a portable gate up to keep the dogs inside while the trick-or-treaters came, Bogey had an adventure.  One of the young neighbor boys had a hot dog costume on complete with some 3-D mustard running down the front.  Bogey greeted him and then tried to mouth the mustard, thinking it was something to eat.  His foster mom intervened before any damage was done and the little boy was delighted that Bogey thought he really looked like a hot dog!

Since Bogey is very food-motivated and is very hard of hearing, his foster parents call his name loudly and wave their arms at him to catch his attention.  Then, they pretend that they have a treat for him and he comes running.  Of course, a treat then has to be delivered!  At his parents’ mealtime, Bogey will sometimes beg by giving one of his tremendous “Woofs” that practically shake the walls.  His foster parents just tell him “no” loudly and shake their heads.  This is enough to have him lie down and stop begging.

Walks continue to be fun with Bogey.  He charges forward like he is on a mission, only stopping to sniff and roll around on his back on the best lawn he can find.  When his foster mom is gardening, Bogey is kept on a long lead so he won’t wander away.  He is not bothered by this; instead, he just settles down on the lawn near where she is working.   

Bogey continues to be a blessing to his foster family!

Update 07/28/2017: “His charming, calm personality shines as he makes friends with all he meets, people, dogs, and cats.”  

Bogey continues to thrive in foster care.  His charming, calm personality shines as he makes friends with all he meets, people, dogs, and cats.  A new elderly foster dog joined his household and Bogey has been excellent with him.  The new dog likes to play with soft toys and Bogey has played a short game of tug with him to try to steal a stuffed chicken away. 

This senior loves to go on leash walks, always wanting to be at the head of the pack.  Every walk necessitates a good back rub on a neighbor’s lawn with Bogey wiggling with his feet in the air! He’s such a happy boy!  He enjoys his time outdoors and loves to walk around sniffing good scents. If he wants to go back in the house, Bogey gives a tremendous “Woof” to let his people know.  Bogey is a wonderful house guest!

When Bogey could no longer make the climb up the wooden stairs to the second floor bedrooms in his Virginia home, he voiced his displeasure with his new main floor sleeping quarters separated from his people by barking persistently.  This nightly disruption proved too much for his owners to deal with, so they turned to MAESSR to find their old boy a new home.
 
The one story ranch style house of his foster family suits Bogey just fine and he has only three steps to navigate as he goes from deck to yard.  He sleeps well through the night in the bedroom with his foster parents and the resident female Springer.  Mr. Personality quickly won the friendship of the elderly resident cat, too, as well as the neighbor’s cat.  In his previous home, Bogey lived happily with a toddler who loved him right back!  Bogey is one sweet senior!
 
Very spry and active, Bogey loves going on walks and sniffing around the yard while his foster mom gardens.  He does not pull on the leash but likes to be the lead dog in the pack. Since he has poor hearing, Bogey needs to be closely watched outside so he knows where his people are and he does not wander off.  A come wave of the hand is enough to bring him trotting back to his people once he sees them.  Having him wear a long lead is the safest thing when he is outside since his foster home does not have a fenced yard. 
 
During the day Bogey takes advantage of the dog beds that are scattered throughout the house so that he can snooze in comfort.  He likes to climb up on the couch in the evening to sit with his foster mom as she reads and watches tv.  Bogey and his foster sister make a wonderful pair of Springer bookends supporting mom in the middle!  This polite old man does not counter-surf nor does he chew inappropriately.  He is a great passenger in the car, too!
 
Bogey did very well at his vet appointment and the vet declared that he was in very good health for his age.  He had a minor ear infection for which he is receiving antibiotics and eye meds are being applied to his eyes to reduce redness and irritation due either to allergies or a small growth inside of his eyelid.  His blood work indicated that he is ehrlichia positive so he will be on antibiotics for a month. 

Bogey’s coat is soft and shiny and he has enjoyed professional grooming all of his life.  He was quite cooperative when his foster mom trimmed up his paws so he could have better traction on the hardwood floors.  Oh, his teeth are beautiful too!
