Original: “Bobby loves having toys thrown in the fenced yard, but wants his person to chase after him as the goal of the game.”
When Bobby’s elderly owners from Pennsylvania starting having issues with their health and Bobby’s activity level was too much for them, it was decided that rehoming him to a more suitable family would be the best thing to do. So, Bobby became a MAESSR boy.
Bobby’s foster mom was impressed at how quickly he settled in to his new living situation. Completely housetrained, he crates quietly at night, gets along fine with the resident female sight hound, and wags his tail if his people even look at him. When his foster family is away, he’s just gated out of the kitchen, as is the resident dog. At his prior home, he had to be leash led into a plastic crate, but in foster home, the wire crate with full view of the room, seems to suit him much better. The command “crate up” works just fine at bed time.
With good house manners, Bobby doesn’t counter-surf, trash dive, or chew anything he shouldn’t. He loves car rides but gets a little excited so needs his seat belt/harness to keep him in place. He enjoys leash walks, either alone or in tandem with the resident dog. He will get on the sofa if invited, but is happy flopping on the floor near his person’s feet and going belly up for pets.
Since Bobby tends to inhale his food, he uses a slow feeder bowl and is fed separately from the resident dog who eats more slowly. He doesn’t seem to resource guard his food either. He and the resident gal will sit for treats side by side. At 60 pounds, he is not overweight but would be slim and trim at 50 pounds.
This smart boy knows “sit,” “down,” “touch,” “come” (if not distracted), and “go to bed.” Bobby loves having toys thrown in the fenced yard, but wants his person to chase after him as the goal of the game. In the yard, he’s not that interested in birds but does the Springer pattern of smelling for any critter on leash. He’s not yet jumped headlong into the plastic doggie pool so getting swim time is probably not a main priority for him. Favorite toys are balls or squeaky toys. The resident hound gal is less toy motivated but Bobby probably would be fine with another dog competing for tossed toys. In his prior life, he did doggy day care three days a week and played with the big dogs.
Bobby arrived at his foster home with all his shots and shaved down so it’s unknown how he’d do at the groomers or vet; however, since he accepted being touched all over from the first day in foster care and loves being brushed, he’d probably be fine. He’s been in his foster home during several thunderstorms and is indifferent to the noise. His previous owners started Bobby on a Prozac generic because he showed too much energy but he could most likely be weaned off of it over time.
Bobby would love an active forever home with a nice fenced yard. He doesn’t rush the fence gate nor consider trying to go over the fence. He’s not been tested off leash in open areas. If not getting long walks, he’d love to have someone toss a toy or ball for him and then pretend to try to get it. If his person goes back inside, he drops the toy outside for the next time out.
If having lots of activity with your dog is your thing, consider bringing Bobby into your family!
