Update 12/31/2017: “Bobby, may you now be restored to good health and happily waiting to cross paths with all who loved you in this life.“
Sweet Bobby’s time was shorter with his foster family than anticipated. As the sum of his illnesses increasingly made life less comfortable for him, it became clear that it was time to let him pass to the Bridge.
Bobby, may you now be restored to good health and happily waiting to cross paths with all who loved you in this life.
Original: “He gets along well with all dogs, people, and children but prefers people to other dogs and only wants to be with his people.”
Bobby was relinquished to MAESSR because his Maryland family with whom he had lived since he was four to five years old was no longer able to properly care for him. The owner lived in a house with steep stairs and Bobby could longer comfortably navigate the home. This love is very unhappy when he is not with his people and was lonely.
Bobby had been in kidney failure for a while, and his family had done a very good job of managing it. When he came to MAESSR, he went to the vet for a complete workup, and, unfortunately, kidney failure was one of the lesser problems he had. The vet determined this senior has prostate cancer and gave him three to six months to live. The MAESSR foster family team made the decision to make this sweet boy a permanent foster so he could live out his remaining life being catered to and spoiled.
Bobby has never shown any aggression, ever. He is very compliant. He gets along well with all dogs, people, and children but prefers people to other dogs and only wants to be with his people. He does not chew, dig, or bark excessively. He cannot jump a fence. He has no submissive urination and does not dribble urine although he does need to be let outdoors immediately upon getting up in the morning. He will “watch” for food and will dive into the trash. He does not counter-surf nor jump on people.
This guy has had no formal obedience training, and, although crate trained as a younger dog, does not use a crate now. He is more than willing to do whatever is asked of him. He walks well on a leash and is absolutely trusted off leash (remember, he only wants to be with his people). He does get a little car sick so he should not be fed prior to car riding. Bobby has no separation anxiety nor is he afraid of loud noises.
Handsome’s coat is kept fairly short. He has been professionally groomed all his life without issue. His feet and ears are easy to handle.
Bobby doesn’t play much anymore and lives indoors.
Old age, and, in some cases, illness will come to all of us and many of our dogs. Bobby needs to stay in our minds this holiday season, and we can give thanks for the good life he lived. Please keep this sweet boy in your thoughts.
