Original: “Bo has been a wonderful dog in his foster home.”
Bo was relinquished to MAESSR after he nipped the trash collection person at his Pennsylvania home. It was a very minor nip, but the person had to report it because he was bitten while on the job. He did not require any medical attention. This was the only time Bo had ever bitten. There had been a lot of chaos and upheaval in the home due to a divorce, and the owner thought that might have been affecting Bo. It was very heartbreaking to let Bo go, but everyone felt it was the best move for him.
Bo was the owner’s ex-husband’s dog, bought for hunting but never trained in any way and he had never hunted. He lived on a farm and Bo was allowed to roam the farm with no boundaries or supervision.
Bo’s family included children 2 years old and 7 years old. He was great with the 7 year old but had growled at the toddler when the child would hit Bo. The 2 year old had a tendency to bother Bo.
Bo barks at things in his environment that he sees moving. He chews on his blanket. He is housetrained, doesn’t use a crate, and has full freedom in the house. He begs and counter-surfs given the chance. Bo knows “sit,” “shake,” and “lie down,” but has had no training. Having seldom walked on leash, Bo will pull on the leash. He is a good passenger in the car.
He is okay at the groomer; his previous owner said that the vet muzzled him when his ears needed treating. When he went to the vet with his foster mom, Bo was an angel – even when they were treating his ears.
Bo has been a wonderful dog in his foster home. His foster mom is recommending a home without children under the age of 15 to allow him to have a calmer environment. It is also strongly suggested that Bo is taken to a series of obedience classes. This will enhance the bonding with his new family and will show him proper manners.
This nice boy is looking for a family to give him love, security, and guidance. Would that be your family?
