Original: “ Bo’s energy level is medium, and he seems content with a daily one mile walk and a session of backyard ball.”
Bo 12 and his litter mate Koby came to be in MAESSR’s care when their West Virginia family could no longer afford to care for them and were losing their home. Bo slept in an outbuilding with two other dogs and was taken out daily.
Bo is not 100% housetrained. He is marking in the house, but, hopefully, neutering will help curtail this behavior. He does bark and stand at the door to ask to go outside. Bo is crate trained and is in his crate when his foster family is not home. He does go in very nicely. He loves to snuggle and has become less “whiny” and “needy” over the course of the first week in foster care. He ignores the resident dog and plays/fights with his littermate. Bo definitely guards resources; he growls when other dogs get between him and his humans. He shares toys and food with his littermate, but not with other dogs.
The new house guest is working on his manners. This is a super cute boy who makes mistakes because he hasn’t been trained. He jumps up and paws at his humans for attention. He is pretty gentle at taking treats, but since he came from a house with two other dogs, he pushes in to get what is offered. Bo will counter-surf; he helped himself to a packet of cookies from a bar-height counter—a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do! While he has unsuccessfully tried to get into the dog locked trash can, he has successfully opened the tupperware dog food bin and helped himself. He is fed in the kitchen. In his foster home, Bo is allowed on the furniture and enjoys a sofa snuggle. At night, he sleeps in his foster parents’ bedroom.
Bo knows no commands but is working on “sit” and “down.” He has had little experience on leash walks and is a puller. He barks at other dogs on a walk but enjoys the sights and smells. Mr. B. loves to play fetch, likes kongs and balls, and enjoys gnawing on a nylabone (he might like a softer toy, but none are in his foster home as the resident Springer destroys them). Bo’s energy level is medium, and he seems content with a daily one mile walk and a session of backyard ball. He does not chew inappropriately. And, he rides well in the car.
Bo did great in the bath and allowed his foster mom to groom him with clippers, including his ears. He is also very good with having his ears cleaned. A muzzle was used on his vet trip because of his growling behavior—he and his brother do growl competitively at one another, so the muzzle may not be necessary long term
This middle-aged Springer has had some rough times, sometimes living with his people and sharing their bed, but sometimes spending his nights in an outbuilding. He has a loving, sweet personality and deserves a forever home where he can live indoors as a cherished pet, receive attention from his people, and learn he does not have to compete for love. Would you like to show this fellow how wonderful and cozy and snuggly a home and its folks can be?
