Original: “With all of those freckles, Bo looks like he was splashed with chocolate…and what a ‘sweet’ addition he will make in his forever family!”
Energetic, friendly, happy, “springy,” playful and downright freckly cute: all describe puppy Bo to a T!!! Bo came into MAESSR’s care due to his owner’s high-risk pregnancy. This Virginia pup bounced right on into his Pennsylvania foster home without a care in the world, as if he had been there all along in his four short months of life.
Bo met the resident dogs and did well, encouraging them to play with him. He also met the resident cats. One kitty was willing to meet him and Bo sniffed and wagged his tail happily; however, the other feline was not happy to meet him, hissing and giving Bo a whack across the nose. Bo jumped back and just looked at this cat with an expression that appeared to mean, “Oh, well.” He then turned and went back to sniffing the more reasonable kitty. Good boy, Bo!
This youngster is a very smart boy! He knows “sit” and “down” with hand signals, and “watch me.” Giving his paw to shake also is in Bo’s repertoire. Currently he’s learning “stay,” “let go,” and “leave it.” Bo has great eye contact; he’s really eager to learn and please his people! Bo is doing well with his housetraining. He understands “go out” and will do his duties outside. Currently he is on a puppy schedule for housetraining so he fully learns the manner of his duties. The art of bouncing through the doggy door has been mastered by Bo, and he will let himself out when he has to “go.” Bo does jump on the furniture but, when told to get down, he happily obliges and goes to get a toy. Has Bo mentioned that he really likes to play?!
On outings, Bo does great when meeting other dogs and people. He paid a visit to his foster mom’s vet to pick up medication for a resident dog and did great while there. A lab puppy he met became an instant playmate. Bo also went to a local pet store to learn how to shop and behave in a dog-friendly store. Again, Bo did well. He met two other puppies and the play time started! The people he met just thought he was the cutest ever. Bo rides well in the car, no car sickness at all. He simply just sits on the seat and waits for the car to get moving and then lies down for a nap. What a good traveler he is!
Bo does well with getting his ears cleaned and having his fur brushed. The nail clippers don’t frighten him; he just has a hard time sitting still for a nail trim because he wants to play! His foster mom keeps giving him paw massages so he stays used to having his paws handled. Leash manners are still a work in progress. Bo likes to be outside and go for a walk; sometimes he helps hold the leash! With consistent training, Bo should excel at being a good walking partner. This friendly boy is extremely eager to meet other people and dogs while out on his walk.
When it is time for bed, Bo will sleep in his crate. The first night he whined and barked for a minute or so; he then quieted down and slept all night with no messes in his crate. Now Bo knows that crate time is sleep time and he settles down for a good night’s sleep. During the day while his foster mom is at work, Bo is in a puppy pen and does well inside. He really likes to please his people and hear “Good Boy,” along with getting lots of hugs and kisses. Bo likes to be with his people at all times; he will follow his foster mom wherever she goes and will snuggle up next to her, either for a nap or while playing with a toy. Bo loves to play with many toys but he seems to have chosen his two ultimate favorites: a squeaky dragon and a big red rubber branch, which will get adopted with him. He also loves to pounce on a rolling ball and will bring it back to be rolled again, and again, and again.
Bo has not exhibited any signs of counter-surfing or trash-diving. While his bowl is being readied, he either plays with a toy, bounces up and down, or patiently sits and waits behind his foster mom. When the bowl starts moving, Bo runs and hops happily to the puppy pen for his dining pleasures. There are no signs of food bowl resource guarding or crate guarding. His foster mom can pet him while he is eating and his tail goes nonstop. This well-mannered boy is highly content with chewing on his toys and has had no notions to chew on anything inappropriate. Such a good puppy Bo is!
While Bo already is on his way to becoming a well-behaved Springer boy, potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Bo should be an “A” student at puppy obedience class!
Bo is a very energetic puppy and needs to release his energy by lots of activity. He hasn’t met any toddlers and, with his exuberance, may knock a toddler down while bouncing and playing. Besides a loving family, Bo needs an active family so he can release all the puppy energy that is in him. This will make him an extremely happy boy! With all of those freckles, Bo looks like he was splashed with chocolate…and what a “sweet” addition he will make in his forever family! Looking for sweetness that doesn’t add pounds? Looking for an active companion in life? Looking for an adorable, loving puppy to spend your life with? Then, Bo’s the boy for you!
