Meet Blew! This handsome guy was relinquished to MAESSR when the combination of his puppy enthusiasm and a medical condition, along with three other dogs, became too much for his owners. Blew adapted quickly to his foster home, and is making himself comfortable while awaiting a corrective surgery for a twisted ureter.
True to his puppy nature, Blew loves to play with other dogs and is always up for a game of fetch. He also enjoys gnawing on bones. Blew is an intelligent dog who knows how to “sit” and “lay down.” His foster mom is working on teaching him a “down” command because he frequently jumps up on people and furniture. Blew must sit in order to get treats or supper, and to be released from his crate or to go outside. He accepts treats gently and hasn’t shown any signs of resource guarding.
Blew is housetrained and has not had any accidents in foster care. He will whine and bark if he needs to go out. He is also crate trained, although if he knows that his foster mom is just in the other room doing a chore he will put up a fuss.
As a puppy, Blew still has a few things to learn. He is a counter-surfer extraordinaire and will take food or items off the countertops. He likes to eat paper products, but knows to leave trash cans, slippers, and shoes alone. He also tends to be underfoot at times. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
Blew loves to spend time in the yard, but will bark at cars that go by. His foster mom has not noticed any digging. While inside, Blew is generally well-behaved. His foster mom has discovered muddy paw prints in the tub when she neglects to shut the bathroom door!
Because of his urinary issue, Blew has trouble holding his urine for long periods of time. He can generally sleep for six hours without needing to go out. After his surgery, the expectation is that this will be improved and Blew will be more comfortable.
Staying as handsome as Blew takes work! Fortunately, he loves being brushed and was very patient while his foster mom removed mats from behind his ears. He also enjoyed his bath, and, after attempting a leap as soon as he was rinsed off, stayed put for his towel drying. Good boy, Blew!
This sweet, smart pup will be looking for a forever home soon. Stay tuned to hear more about Blew!
