Blaze is into everything and is so playful and fun. His foster family can’t believe he is six; that’s the Springer in him!!
This Springer wanna-be with the beautiful tail has made some gains in all areas. He is now fine with the resident cat, but is kept separate as he goes right upstairs and eats her food! His foster family is continuing to work on counter-surfing and using a consistent technique in the kitchen to thwart his strategy. Do you see a pattern? This is a food-focused canine who manages to retain his young man physique in spite of his weight gain!
Blaze and the resident Springer get along quite well; the resident is dominant and Blaze respects that with no aggression.
MAESSR’s handsome guy loves the car and is a great traveler. He has been to day care and overnight boarding without a problem.
Are you looking for a somewhat smaller fellow……..a playmate with a “real” tail? Blaze is looking for a family to love. Maybe you should connect?
Original: “A good forever family would be one with children who can help Blaze channel his energy through play and exercise.”
Blaze came to MAESSR when his former family was moving from New York and knew they would have less time for him now with a new baby in the house. MAESSR gladly took him in.
A Springer-beagle mix full of fun and energy, Blaze loves to run, play ball, and socialize with humans and other dogs. While in his foster home he has gotten along with the resident Springer and all humans in the home. In fact, he and the resident dog are great friends and love to play with each other. He has been exposed to a 3-year-old granddaughter and, other than being excited to see her, he loves the company. The foster family is working on his meet-and-greet skills, which need a little brushing up; he will jump for joy to see the newcomer. He is still adjusting to the resident cat.
A lover of walks, this guy is learning not to pull on the leash. Because of his hunting instincts, it is best that Blaze stay on a leash as he loves to chase other animals and explore his surroundings. He loves to play in the fenced-in backyard and does not dig.
Blaze has not had any formal training so he is still learning many rules and commands. He will “sit” when told and will “come” when called. He likes to sit on furniture, but does get off when commanded. He is a great counter-surfer but is learning these are not the rules that should be followed. It’s just that, that darn beagle nose is interested in any food available. Even though he is 6, he still is very curious fellow and is interested in everything.
Handsome Blaze is a smart boy that signals when he needs to go out by barking and then barking again to come back in. He is completely housetrained. The crate training is coming along. He does not like to be left in the crate alone but will sleep in the crate in the foster parents’ bedroom with the door open. While the foster parents are at work, he has access to the kitchen, family room, and basement. He is with the resident Springer during this time and is doing very well with this set-up. He absolutely loves to play with toys!
This wonderful mixed Springer did very well in the car. He had his nails clipped at the groomers and was fine with being handled. He was also well behaved while at the vet, which was his first visit in almost 3 years. His ears were cleaned and looked great.
Blaze and the resident dog are fed in separate rooms because of potential food-aggression with the resident dog. Blaze has not shown any food aggression, but is a ferocious eater. At his visit, the vet suggested that he gain some weight before his neutering. A small dog in stature, he weighs just 30 pounds.
A good forever family would be one with children who can help Blaze channel his energy through play and exercise. This beautiful mix loves to play and has the energy to burn. A family with children to continue his training and to give him a stable home is all this lovely guy craves.
