Update 12/05/2016: “Biscuit’s foster mom emphasizes that he is a wonderful dog and an absolute sweetheart.”
Biscuit received another round of antibiotics to see if an infection from his toenail was causing Biscuit to limp. The limp persists, so he has moved to another foster home for a vet consultation. During that visit, a small cyst on Biscuit’s upper eyelid also will be examined to see if any action is required.
Biscuit’s foster mom emphasizes that he is a wonderful dog and an absolute sweetheart. This boy is full of love! His house manners are impeccable, too. His ideal forever home would be one with no other dogs as he prefers to have his humans all to himself.
Watch for Biscuit’s progress as his health issues are sorted out. You wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to have this sweetie join your family!
Original: “His eyes are the most beautiful ones his foster mom has ever seen, the window to this loving guy’s soul. This boy is a sweetheart!”
Biscuit was found as a stray in New Jersey and came to MAESSR after being cared for by a local shelter. He had hair loss on his back end likely from a flea allergy and an embedded toe nail. Both have been treated and he is well on the road to recovery. Lots of belly rubs, good food, and a warm bed has truly brought life back to this precious creature.
His foster parents have found that Biscuit is housetrained. He has never peed in his foster home but did poop once on the first day, probably due to the excitement of leaving the shelter and having his own quiet “home.” Sometimes Biscuit stands by the door and wiggles his whole body to signal he wants to go outside, looking at his foster parents with such excitement in his gorgeous eyes. Other times he’ll stand by the door and bark. When he sees his foster mom grab the leash, he raises his paw as if to say “Thank you,” and politely waits for her to fasten the leash to his collar.
Biscuit doesn’t chew inappropriately. In fact, his foster parents have never seen him chew anything except a bone and squeaky toys. He rarely counter-surfs and is polite as can be when he is fed a treat from a foster parent’s hand. He doesn’t explore the trash or rolls of toilet paper – he is one well-mannered fellow. When his foster parents are not home, Biscuit has free roam of the house. He deplores the crate and will howl incessantly if confined. At night, he sleeps like a baby seven to eight hours on a blanket on the floor at the foot of his foster mom’s bed or on the couch. He gets plenty of time outside and loves to go on walks. Good on a leash and rarely pulling, when Biscuit encounters other dogs on walks he is a true gentleman. This sweet boy loves to ride in the car and generally falls asleep in minutes. He is not very interested in toys; this guy’s a calm fellow. He loves to take naps but is raring to go as soon as the front door opens. Biscuit loves attention and is eager to share his love. He’ll walk room to room following his foster parents but, when his foster dad closes the bathroom door to shower, he’ll bark loudly as he hates to be out of sight. His foster parents think that Biscuit once had a happy home prior to becoming a stray, as he is such a precious boy. His eyes are the most beautiful ones his foster mom has ever seen, the window to this loving guy’s soul. This boy is a sweetheart!
Biscuit is not timid in the company of people he does not know and has been a good buddy to the 11 month old resident Springer. He has not yet encountered a cat.
Because he received his name at the shelter just a couple of weeks ago, Biscuit does not respond to his name. He knows “sit” and sometimes he responds to “come.” He is trusted off leash in open spaces and he loves the outdoors, especially chasing deer.
At mealtime Biscuit is fed in the kitchen and cleans his bowl every time. He loves to drink a lot of water and to chase ice cubes around his bowl. He did great while his foster parents gave him a bath outside and the cool water from the hose didn’t bother him a bit! He loved getting his curly locks primped. He’s a good boy when he gets his ears cleaned and waits patiently while his foster mom wipes his feet after walks.
His foster parents think that Biscuit might do best in a forever home that does not have other dogs, as he gets jealous when his foster parents give attention to the resident puppy. He needs a forever home that is willing to give him love and special attention so he can continue to feel safe and secure. This fellow truly is “a man’s (or woman’s) best friend.” Biscuit will surely make his forever home the happiest home ever – he’ll stick to you like glue and steal your heart away. He is one special Springer.
