Update 04/27/12:
All great news is in on Mr. Bill…………:)). He was a good boy at his final vet check and has been cleared to begin seeking his forever home!
With his vetting complete, Bill is feeling so much better; his full energy and youthfulness is showing. With the rebound, Bill has even shown a willingness to help with housework. He doesn’t chew inappropriate things but will take it upon himself to rearrange things while his family is away. One day he decided to unpack summer clothes that were stored under a stairway and had them everywhere when his foster mom arrived home. Maybe he thought those bags were giant-size toys? Maybe it’s the hunting instincts in this young boy? Maybe it’s simply that this mischievous fieldie is a work in progress! Nice progress on crate-training did come about because of his self-directed busyness and now, when his family is at work or out on errands, Bill is confined while awaiting their return.
Bill has been good with grooming and looks quite handsome in his summer clip! He continues to enjoy canine companionship and would like to have another active dog to play with, one that would help him expend his energy when the home chores are done! With appropriate training and ample exercise, his foster parents know Bill will make an adopting family very, very happy!
Original:
Running loose and chasing chickens out of hunger with another Springer in Kentucky, Bill and his companion Annie had obviously been dumped. In their desperation, they were hoping that a chicken dinner on the wing was in the offing. When animal control picked up the pair, collar information led them to the original owner who claimed he gotten rid of them and apparently the new owner didn’t want them anymore either. He sure didn’t want them back. Luckily, MAESSR was there to help.
Bill spent his first weekend as a MAESSR boy going camping! What a treat that was when he got to meet his foster parents’ furkids and a lot of other people who were willing to share their wiener roast morsels. When he first met the two resident Springers, Bill could hardly contain himself. It was like meeting up with lost relatives; all he could do was dance and shake that Springer body!
A typical Springer with a loving spirit, Bill has no problems meeting other people, dogs, or even cats. Bill loves going for walks and he does not pull on the leash. Good boy, Bill! He is learning some basic commands as “come boy,” “sit,” “go potty,” and, of course, the words “down” and “no”. He does some counter-surfing but is finding out that is not allowed and will get down when told. Bill does not trash dive, though. Due to being an outside dog before he became a MAESSR boy, he has had accidents in the house but is progressing well with his housetraining.
If he sees the peanut butter jar come out, Bill starts dancing and gives big smiles because peanut butter is his FAVORITE food. He doesn’t even mind if his peanut butter treat is really disguising a pill! Bill loves to eat but shows no food aggression. In fact, he wants to help the resident dogs eat their meals, too. When meal time is over, Bill likes to play tug-of-war with the resident dogs–even the little ones! While his foster parents are at work or are running errands, Bill and the resident Springers stay in the basement and he shows no anxiety while his foster parents are gone. He enjoys car rides and looking out the windows before settling down to ride in comfort. Vet visits are no problem at all.
No couch potato, Bill loves being outside taking in the country air, sniffing the new smells and he keeps his eyes peeled for any movement in the woods behind his foster home. Even when the family is inside, he likes to be outside in the fenced in yard laying in the grass and listening. But when he is called inside, Bill comes running till the outside calls him again.
Bill’s ideal home would be an active, outdoor type family that he can walk, run and hike with. Having a canine companion to play with in his loving forever home would be terrific. Children would be great, too, as Bill wouldn’t mind some playtime and loving arms to hold him. Do you have what this boy is looking for?
