Update 11/16/2020: “Recently Bianca took a road trip with her foster family. She was fabulous in the car and a super polite houseguest.”
Bianca is doing great in her foster home. Although she continues to suffer from some allergies and skin issues, the medication and medicated baths make her comfortable and her coat is filling back in. Bianca is eating well and has put on five pounds.
She is great taking her medications, is non-reactive with food, and she doesn’t counter-surf. Good girl, Bianca! She will poke her nose in the dishwasher or a bag left on the floor to investigate, but she responds quickly to correction.
Bianca is currently showing the ropes to four foster puppies! She wasn’t a huge fan at first especially with the competition for toys, but they are growing on her and it’s helped bring her out of her shell more. She has taught them all how to play ball and chase sticks. Bianca enjoys walks around the neighborhood, continuing to be cautious but non-reactive. She is still a very timid girl but a ball or a stick can usually help her overcome her fear.
Recently Bianca took a road trip with her foster family. She was fabulous in the car and a super polite houseguest. She enjoyed running in the fields chasing behind the other dogs, sniffing all kinds of new animals, walking in the woods, and splashing in the pond – although she made sure her foster mom was always close by. She even met a few cats and a flock of chickens. She was watchful and a little curious, finally building up the courage to take a few sniffs but decided her people and the ball were more exciting.
Spay surgery is still pending for this girl but after that she will be ready to enjoy so many new adventures with her forever family.
Original: “Overall, Bianca is a sweet dog, happy to snuggle and nap the day away until she sees a ball or stick. Then she is ready to take on the world and will happily bound around the yard after her favorite toys.”
Bianca came to MAESSR as part of a group of dogs in a Maryland breeding situation. The owner had fallen into poor health and wasn’t able to give the dogs proper care. As a result, Bianca was extremely uncomfortable and itchy with a bad skin infection and had lost a lot of her coat. Her skin infections need to be resolved before she can be spayed. Bianca is quite timid but has adjusted quickly to life in a loving and safe foster home and is starting to come out of her shell. She is an absolute cuddle bug!
This love is housetrained, but her signals are super subtle and can be easily missed. She doesn’t like to be alone so prefers to have her foster brother or a human accompany her outside to do her business and hopefully play fetch when finished! She doesn’t bark, whine or scratch at the door, but will simply pace to indicate her need to go out. Her foster family is working on bell training. Bianca is crate trained and views the crate as her safe place. She happily goes in when asked and stays in the crate when her foster family is away from the house. At night she sleeps on a dog bed next to the human bed but would happily snuggle up as close to possible to her humans if allowed.
Bianca has been a lovely house guest. She has shown no evidence of counter-surfing, inappropriate chewing or trash diving. She loves being as close as possible to her humans and will happily get up on the furniture to be closer if allowed.
Miss B. wasn’t familiar with basic commands when she entered foster care but has learned “sit,” “drop it,” and “off.” She is a lovely dog on walks, sticking close to her person’s side without pulling. She is rather timid when encountering new people and animals and will cautiously observe from the safety behind her handler. She is calm in the car and after investigating will lie down and enjoy the ride.
Bianca has shown no evidence of resource guarding. She is fed in the kitchen at the same time as her foster brother and will enjoy her own meal and ignore his. He doesn’t always have the best table manners and will hover super close to make sure she doesn’t drop anything, but this doesn’t seem to faze her. They take medicine and treats side by side without issue.
Overall, Bianca is a sweet dog, happy to snuggle and nap the day away until she sees a ball or stick, Then she is ready to take on the world and will happily bound around the yard after her favorite toys. She absolutely loves balls and sticks and will play fetch with her folks for hours! She is timid around strangers and will hesitate to go with someone new and shake, but sits quietly to have her nails clipped and to be groomed. She always receives a lot of comments about how sweet and gentle she is!
Bianca would flourish in a home with someone who is patient and willing to take the time to help her come out of her shell. She would do well with a calm, confident dog or two in the family but a younger, rambunctious pup may be too intimidating for her.
