Original: “Bethany is most happy in her person’s lap, resting by her side, or just anywhere within ear scratch reach.”
Bethany came to MAESSR when her New Jersey owners did not have time for her; she was spending too many hours in a crate without the attention she desired. Now, as a MAESSR girl Bethany is being showered with attention from her foster family.
Her foster family was supportive and patient as the shy, cowering, tail-tucked Bethany tried out life in a family with her four-legged brother and sister. They showed her the ropes of playing with toys and jumping on the couch—something allowed in her foster home. How strange this was for Bethany! She really did not know how to play or what to expect from toys. That all changed very quickly!
One morning it happened–just a sudden, odd thing that would change Bethany’s life forever. On the floor of the living room she found a small stuffed bird toy and picked it up. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEK! She pranced! Now as she followed her foster mom from room to room, she took her toy with her. SQUEEEEEEEEK! Bethany was warming up to her new life with wonderful squeaky toys! After a trip to the pet store, MAESSR’s newest girl had her own new birds and was ecstatic.
The foster family thinks Bethany was training to join the circus. Have you seen those circus performers who spin plates on sticks and try to keep twenty going at the same time? Well, Bethany does this with stuffed birds. One morning her foster family watched her running around the kitchen floor biting–count them—thirteen birds on the floor trying to make them all squeak at the same time. She is now one happy dog!
Bethany is most happy in her person’s lap, resting by her side, or being just anywhere within ear scratch reach. She is convinced the kitchen rug was made just for her to sit and watch over the kitchen, enjoying all the scents! There’s no counter-surfing for her, though. MAESSR’s newest girl enjoys sleeping on her dog bed, eating two meals a day plus snacks and treats, and soaking up all the attention and love she gets from her foster family.
This love has overcome her fear of the great outdoors. The days of the tail-tucked appearance have been replaced with a “standing tall” tail look—a tail that is wagging constantly!
Watch for more on Bethany as she finishes her vetting! The lucky family who will adopt her will think they have won the lottery!
