Berrie was a stray that was picked up by the animal control in West Virginia. A local good Samaritan rescued her from the shelter when her time was up. He contacted MAESSR asking for assistance. Berrie got her name because her foster mom picked her up in Berryville, VA. The foster mom believes that Berrie was an indoor dog at one time, but then was put outside to live. Her coat was in bad shape, she had tapeworms and hookworms, she had very bad infections in both ears, and she had entropin eyes. While Berrie was at the vet for spay surgery, they corrected the entropin eyes so she would not have future problems. Berrie has had a couple of accidents in the house, but we are working to remind her of the housebreaking rules.
Berrie is a wonderfully sweet dog that likes kids (as young as 3), ignores cats (she will chase if they run, but will not hurt them), and gets along well with other dogs. Berrie loves to play ball and will keep a ball in her mouth constantly if allowed. She will also play with other toys, but a ball is her favorite. Berrie is crate trained and will get on furniture. She gets off when told, but would love to be able to be that close to her people at all times. The foster mom would HIGHLY recommend an obedience class for Berrie, because she has not had any formal training. Berrie will pull on the leash, counter-surf a little, and sniffs at the trash. Berrie does not chew on any inappropriate items and is the best cuddle dog the foster mom has had in a while. Berrie is not the dog for you if you do not want a “close” companion…she is always trying to see how much closer she can get!!!
Could she become your favorite type of “Berrie”?
