Original: In the world of abandoned dogs there is no end to sad stories, but fortunately for Benson, his story took a turn before it became tragic. Benson was found tied up under a bridge near the Delaware River on a cold, windy night. He was terrified but quickly cheered when taken to a warm, dry shelter in New Jersey. From there, he made his move to a MAESSR foster home. He checked out very well at his vet exam. His only needs to gain a few pounds which will happen easily with regular mealtimes. His coat is in good condition and is just as silky as it looks in his pictures!
Benson is totally housebroken and polite in the house when left alone with the resident Springer. His foster family has introduced him to a crate for short periods of time, knowing that the time may come when he will benefit from feeling comfortable about spending time there. For now, gradual progress is quite enough. At night he sleeps on his dog bed at the foot of the people bed. He is good when riding on family outings in the car.
There are small children who visit in Benson’s foster home, and he does well with them. His soft mouth when taking treats is part of what makes the children delight in him so much. He was an instant winner with the resident Springer and charms the resident cats – although he can be almost overly playful with them at times.
Benson knows his basic commands and loves a good round of “fetch.” Squeaky toys are his absolute favorites, but he is playful with all of the big collection he finds in the toy box. True to his gentle nature, he does not tear up the toys, he only plays with them. When not playing Benson is usually very close to his foster parents, following them around the house, as if he didn’t want to be alone again. And, of course, it’s certain now that he won’t be. As soon as Benson is neutered, he will be joining his forever family and will never be cold, wet and abandoned again!!
