Update 07/02/2018: “When she sees the leash come out she almost wiggles out of her skin.”
Belle has made some wonderful progress in her foster home. Her urinary tract infection is totally cleared…YEAH! Also, her broken leg seems to be healed. She does not limp, but when she is just standing around she keeps the weight off of that leg. Dental cleaning for her has been completed too..
This little lady LOVES to go for a walk. When she sees the leash come out she almost wiggles out of her skin. She is almost as happy when the leash means she is going on a car ride.
If you are looking for a companion that will keep you more active but also likes to cuddle and watch TV, Belle is the one.
Original: “She is a little Velcro girl and quickly becomes bonded to new people, following their every step.”
This sweet American Cocker Spaniel had been adopted from a Virginia shelter when she was not in very good shape. Unfortunately, Belle was not getting along with the senior blind dogs in her new home so her rescuer decided to place her with MAESSR.
Housetrained and crate trained, Belle has excellent house manners so she is rarely put in a crate. She is a little Velcro girl and quickly becomes bonded to new people, following their every step. Not surprisingly, she was good at the groomer, having no issues with her ears or feet. Belle walks well on a leash and rides well in a car.
When Belle came to her foster home (where there are MANY other dogs), she was showing generalized anxiety. Her foster mom started her on an anti-anxiety supplement and she has calmed down nicely. Now she gets along well with all of the other dogs in her foster home as she is really a sweet baby girl.
Belle previously had 17 teeth extracted because they were in such bad shape. Her foster family’s vet is not sure yet whether Belle will need to have more teeth extracted; other health issues need to be brought under control before the decision is made about a dental.
Poor Belle has a number of health issues. She is currently being treated for a serious urinary tract infection. She also has dry eye. This will require drops in her eyes twice a day for the rest of her life. While at her previous home, Belle had been limping for a little while which was attributed to arthritis. When MAESSR’s vet x-rayed Belle’s leg, it was determined that she had a healing fracture! She is getting around much better now, so hopefully it will be all healed soon.
During her examination, everyone at the vet office fell in love with this sweetie. Belle is so cuddly!
More to come as her health issues resolve.
