Updated 11/15/05: When Belle came into foster care, she had a bad urinary tract infection which is now cleared up! She also had a report from the surrendering family’s vet saying she was Lyme positive low. Although the foster family’s vet saw no evidence of Lyme disease, he has given her routine antibiotics just in case. So, this healthy springer is ready to find her forever home.
Belle continues to be a sweet, obedient girl. She really enjoys rough-housing with the younger of her two foster brothers, and she has learned to complain to him if he is playing too rough. The only thing that Belle takes out of the toy box is rawhides. She enjoys gnawing away on a good bone. She loves running in the park and going for a ride in the car. Having a good roll on her back in the lawn feels sooo good to Belle! Belle only has two bad habits. She will open a partially closed door with her nose and let herself out. Also, if you are drinking tea and are not careful, she will nuzzle under your arm to be petted which sometimes upsets your tea. These are minor problems to deal with considering she is such a gem.
Belle would like a forever home where she can get lots of attention and lots of exercise. She would enjoy having other pets in her new home since she gets along with cats and other dogs so well. Her current foster family does not have children, but her surrendering family had a seven-year-old in whose room Belle slept. If you are a rookie springer owner, Belle would be a great starter springer since she is such a mannerly, affectionate girl. At six years, Belle is at a wonderful age of “springerdom.” She is healthy and active but is beyond the total silliness of a springer puppy. Make this beauty part of your family!
Original: Belle is as beautiful and sweet as her name suggests. When turned into a shelter because of allergies of a new baby at home, this sweetheart was spotted as the gem that she is by the shelter staff. They quickly contacted MAESSR.
After much brushing and bathing and clipping, Belle is sporting a shiny coat with lovely ticking on her collar, chest, and front legs. She was very patient with the whole grooming process. She is a lady also about walking on leash and will “sit” and “come” when told. Belle lived with young children in her original home, sleeping in a seven-year old’s room. Since arriving at her foster home, she has not tried to get on furniture nor the bed. She does not counter-surf or beg. She is housebroken and has had free run of the kitchen for about 8 hours without an accident. She sometimes goes in an open crate in the kitchen to sleep. Always eager to ride in the car, Belle quickly settles down on the car seat to sleep or quietly watches out the window.
Belle’s only flaw is her weight – 75 pounds! She had not been receiving any exercise in her former home, so plenty of walking and running, plus limiting food intake, should start bringing that weight down. She loves to get out to walk, run and play with the resident male springers. A social and submissive female, Belle would be great in a home with other dogs and is also cat-friendly. Sitting on the rug near her foster mom’s feet while chewing a rawhide or snuggling close to get her tummy rubbed are two of Belle’s favorite activities.
Belle is one of those sweet, responsible middle-aged springers who will be a joy to her adopted family for years to come!
