Original: “Bella has been very calm when meeting other dogs on leash and accepted a trip to a doggie super store as her due!“
When Bella’s original Pennsylvania owners felt they did not have time to give Bella the attention she needed, they surrendered her to a shelter. The shelter contacted MAESSR knowing this good girl would then receive the training, attention and exercise a young Springer needs and deserves.
Bella has had a couple trips to the vet while in her foster home. At first, she received her rabies shot and was spayed; a second trip was necessary to clean and re-stitch her incision. She’ll make yet a third trip the first week in June for a check-up and will finally start receiving her regular inoculations after the middle of the month.
In the meantime, this youngster has settled into her foster home, taking her time getting comfortable. She now sleeps with her foster mom, but is careful to keep her space separate from that of the resident Springer. Similarly, she and her foster brother are fed separately to avoid food squabbles.
Bella knows “sit” and “shake” and is mostly housebroken although she does not signal when she wants to go out; her foster mom takes her outside every 4-5 hours, and this bright young lady has already learned to use the doggie door. She does well walking on leash and is very good at recall when off leash. So far, she has shown no interest in toys but does like her rawhide chew.
Bella has been very calm when meeting other dogs on leash and accepted a trip to a doggie super store as her due! MAESSR’s new young lady is good with people she knows, but can be fidgety with newcomers; not everyone is initially allowed petting privileges. However, after a few minutes warm-up time, she is all about wanting to be petted. The mailman on the porch, however, is another story—her house is BELLA’s house. Bella may probably be best in a home with children old enough to understand her current territorial nature and might just enjoy and benefit from a formal obedience class.
Watch for updates as this sweetie recovers from her surgeries, visits yet more different places and responds to the training her foster mom will provide.
