Update 11/03/2018: “She’s quite mellow but with enough spunk to avoid being boring!”
The past few months have seen Bella receive medical care to keep her in tip top shape. She was spayed and had a dental cleaning performed. Her skin is now feeling much better since those nasty fleas are gone. She’s even taken off a few unnecessary pounds. Since Bella’s joints don’t appear to have the best structure – she is very “out at the elbows” – it is important that this pretty girl keeps slim. She’s taking a supplement to help support her joint health.
Her foster mom reports that Bella, a Springer mix, is a good dog. She’s quite mellow but with enough spunk to avoid being boring! She is reactive and will bark, but she’s not at all aggressive (although she may want others to think that she is.) In her foster home, Bella gets along just great with everyone – dogs and cats alike.
Bella would fit happily into most family situations. Consider adding pretty Bella to you wish list this holiday season.
Original: “Bella had lived with a couple of cats before and was very excited to meet the kitties in her foster home.”
Bella came to MAESSR as a casualty of divorce. In her original Pennsylvania home, she had been an only dog, so becoming part of her foster family’s pack was a learning curve for her.
During the pack “meet and greet” there was a lot of barking, growling and tail wagging. Once boundaries were established, Bella gets along quite nicely with everyone, including the resident cats. Bella had lived with a couple of cats before and was very excited to meet the kitties in her foster home. She will try to get the kitties to play chase, but the cats here don’t fall for that game, and Bella quickly gives up. Bella is quite reactive meeting other dogs when out and about, but it seems to be more all bark and no bite. Bella loves meeting children and lived with kids in her former family.
Very good at the vet, Bella enjoyed the attention and took bribes, err, treats, gently. She even rolled over for belly rubs when the techs were taking bloodwork. Aside from some minor issues, she was given a clean bill of health and her spay surgery and dental were scheduled.
At home Bella is a wonderful houseguest. There have been no accidents and she will stand by the door when she does want to go out. Bella is allowed free run of the house but is also happy to settle down in a crate if necessary. Bella also knows “sit,” “down,” “shake,” and “come” (but that’s only when there’s a treat involved!) She LOVES belly rubs! And like any Spaniel worth her salt, litter boxes, trash cans, and food left out are investigated!
Bella can get in the car herself and is eager to go for a ride but fusses in the car. Right now she has only been crated in her foster mom’s car. During her first hour-long ride to her foster home, she fussed for about 20 minutes before quieting down. Car rides since haven’t been long and although she does fuss, she is happy and not stressed when she reaches her destination.
Out in the yard Bella is content to sniff around and settle down, just like in the house. If there is something going on outside the fence, she will join in and bark. She has not tried to join in any outside games of kickball with the others but did play a bit when encouraged by the young resident female. Bella loves to go for walks, and will pull at first in her excitement.
Bella was very good for her grooming that involved trimming her badly matted feet and trimming her terribly long nails. There was an extra spring in her step when that was all done!
An all-around good dog, Bella would do well as an only dog or as an addition to a pack. She is a sweetheart that will make a family very happy!
