Original: “She is going to make a wonderful new member of someone’s family in the good old summertime.”
Bella was relinquished to a Maryland shelter by her family. MAESSR was told that she had bitten one of the children when the child was plucking her whiskers. She did not break skin and has not had any other biting incidents. She lived with five children, and, at that time, a dog, on top of everything else, seemed just too much for this family.
Bella went to the vet and was spayed and treated for a diagnosed urinary tract infection. She was groomed while there and the groomer could not say enough great things about this pretty lady. The vet staff all raved about what a good girl she was.
This youngster is housetrained, rides well in the car and does not pull on the leash. She is head shy until she knows her person. Her foster mom recommends slowly counter conditioning the reaction to being touched on the head. Bella has made great progress and is much more confident and happy than when she originally came to MAESSR several months ago. She was started on an inexpensive anxiety medication that will need to be continued into her future. One of the adoption requirements will be that the medication be continued for a minimum of six months after adoption.
MAESSR’s lovely new tri-colored girl with the sad eyes loves to play and is great with the other dogs in her foster home. Due to the unpredictability of children, MAESSR is not going to place Bella in a home with children; however, her foster mom feels she would be fine with occasional supervised children visiting. She is going to make a wonderful new member of someone’s family in the good old summertime.
