Update 04/11/2016:“Bella loved helping on the Easter egg hunt in the backyard and helps the resident dog protect their family from the mailman each day with timely barking… :).“
The latest news on this gal is a joy to share…Bella 11 is doing wonderfully! She is adjusting well to the resident Springer in her foster home and to the family’s 9 year-old daughter as well. Bella loved helping on the Easter egg hunt in the backyard and helps the resident dog protect their family from the mailman each day with timely barking… :). Bella loves being part of a family! She is super sweet and gets more comfortable with her new surroundings each day.
Bella’s UTI is gone, although she still has an ear infection that is being treated. She has a healthful loss of 5 pounds in recent weeks, probably because of her family’s “no table scraps” policy. No further blood work has been done so far but, at her most recent vet check, the vet advised that basically weight maintenance food, no table scraps, and daily exercise will help with most of her health issues. Should further monitoring be needed, she will receive it but it’s not a worry at this time.
Bella is fortunate to have become a MAESSR girl and is well on the way to being ready for her new family!!
Original: “Bella’s ideal forever home would be one full of love where she knows she is part of the family and where her people will do everything they can to make her feel safe and happy.”
Bella’s original Pennsylvania owners were unable to keep up with some of her health issues and decided to entrust her to MAESSR. This beautiful young gal has totally won over her foster family.
She is fully housetrained, and lets her folks know when she needs to go out by walking to the door. When her family is not home, she has the run of the house and can usually be found on her doggy bed in the living room or on the couch with the resident dog. She sleeps in the living room at night because she has so far been hesitant to climb the stairs.
This house guest’s manners are wonderful. She has not done any chewing, counter-surfing or trash diving. She does not seem territorial with toys or food. She is fed in the kitchen along with the senior resident dog and does not try to take the other dog’s food—what a good girl!! So far, her energy level has been low, but that could be partially due to the antibiotics she was taking. She seems to be becoming more active.
Bella seems to know the “come” command. Her foster family has taken her on walks, and she is terrific on the leash– no pulling at all. In the car, she is calm and well-behaved. She does not seem to know yet what to do with doggy toys, but tennis balls are out and about for her and hopefully, as she adjusts, she’ll learn what fun they can be.
Grooming and vet appointments are still to be experienced, but Bella’s foster family feels she will continue to be calm and well-behaved through these experiences.
Bella’s ideal forever home would be one full of love where she knows she is part of the family and where her people will do everything they can to make her feel safe and happy. Spring is in the air and just around the corner; Bella will start having fun outside with her two-and four-legged friends and just maybe will discover how to play with those tennis balls!!
