Bear became a MAESSR dog when his North Carolina family became frustrated when he was having accidents inside and started chewing inappropriate articles such as rocks, socks, and towels. Bear’s family couldn’t afford taking him to the vet and made Bear stay outside. They decided the best option for Bear was to relinquish him to MAESSR.
MAESSR, came to the rescue and got Bear to the vet. A complete medical work up including x rays of his belly and blood work diagnosed Bear with a low thyroid issue. A daily thyroid pill and medicine for anxiety in the evening have this sweet boy feeling better. The inexpensive thyroid pill is a life time medication. Bear will be required to stay on his anti-anxiety medication for a minimum of 6 months after adoption.
Bear has full access to the house with the resident Springers and has perfect house manners. There have been no accidents in the house and no chewing or ingesting of toys, socks or anything else. Bear’s preferred room is the kitchen. He doesn’t jump on the furniture but will crawl up in his foster mom’s lap for some love and cuddles. To signal his need to go out, Bear goes to the door. When his foster parents are not home, he is crated. At night, he sleeps in his bed or in his crate. This polite boy does not beg at the table nor does he counter-surf. He has no access to the trash can.
Bear knows “sit” but no other basic commands. He does come when called. He has been on a 4-mile hike with the resident Springers and did awesome. There was no pulling on the leash and he met people and dogs without issue. He was a joy! He rides in the car well, too.
Bear met a friend’s 8-month-old German Shepherd puppy and was very well-behaved. He greeted his guest with a smile and a wiggle butt. Bear will play with a toy but quickly surrenders it to the resident Springer. There have been no signs of resource guarding or bad behavior. He eats his meals in the kitchen and has a good appetite.
Since Bear arrived with a short haircut, he has not had to go to the groomer. He was a little anxious at the vet but otherwise was a good boy. This sweet, loving boy would like a home with or without other dogs. Cats would probably be no problem for him. He would like to crawl up in his owner’s lap for a snuggle and some love, go for a walk, and don’t forget the bedtime cookies as they are a must!
Bear is just full of love!
