Update 01/20/2022: “Run free, Bear!”
As Bear’s personality unfolded in his foster home, it became clear that he would not be suitable for adoption because of aggression. As sad as this may seem, MAESSR puts human safety first and, unfortunately, a small number of dogs that come into our system are deemed unadoptable and sent humanely to the Bridge.
Run free, Bear!
Original: “This high energy boy likes tennis balls and is getting better about bringing them back to his foster mom!”
Bear was relinquished to MAESSR by a young lady that was trying her best to raise him in her small Virginia apartment. This high energy boy was not doing well in that environment, so she contacted MAESSR.
MAESSR’s new youngster is housetrained and will use a crate, but one is not necessary. He sleeps in the big bed with his foster parents for part of the night. Then he sleeps on a dog bed beside their bed.
True to his name, Bear pulls VERY strongly on the leash. His foster mom is working with him on this, but his forever home needs to be aware that it takes some strength to keep him under control. Bear is a very sweet boy that loves to ride in the car. He is an excellent car rider.

MAESSR will be requiring a fenced yard so that Bear will be able to get enough exercise. His foster mom does not want him placed with children younger than 15. He is high energy and will knock over a smaller child. Bear’s new family will be required to complete two series of obedience classes. This will give him and his family time to bond and help him thru his upcoming “teenage” months.Bear needs some polish on some of his rough edges, but he is a sweet boy and will be worth the effort. A lucky family will enjoy hibernating with this bear during the coming winter!
