“Pudge” Baxter (as his former owner called him) came to MAESSR from Pennsylvania when his owner unexpectedly passed away. Baxter was a Velcro boy who had bonded tightly to his mom. He slept with her and followed her every move. Needless to say, Baxter’s life is turned upside down now. This sweet boy has had to make a lot of adjustments to his world in the last few weeks. He is currently taking an inexpensive supplement to help cope with all of the changes.
Baxter is a little anxious when meeting new people for the first time, but he warms up within a few minutes. This boy is all about the human attention! He likes to sleep on or touching his foster mom. He also runs to her to check in and to make sure everything is okay.
A welcome house guest, Baxter is both housetrained and crate-trained. Although he does use a crate, being confined for long periods of time is upsetting to him; therefore, Baxter would do best in a situation where crating would be on a limited basis. He’s not a digger and he never chews on anything inappropriate. A nice synthetic bone is appreciated by Baxter from time to time. He responds to “sit” and “down.” It appears that he’s familiar with “stay.” A real plus for his new family – Baxter isn’t one to bark much. Good boy! When taken for a walk Baxter does pull, so he might need some guidance in that area. Because he’s so people-oriented, Baxter is eager to please and listens well to his humans. He’s also a food-motivated pup, so any training his family might want to add to his repertoire should be a breeze.
When it comes to fun, Baxter loves to chase tennis balls. Since he wants the game to continue, he returns a ball to be thrown again and again. At the dog park, he loves to be petted by all of the humans and they fully reciprocate his affections. He will jump on a bench and lean on anyone who will love on him. Everyone thinks that Baxter is absolutely gorgeous (true) and sweet (also true).
As Baxter gains confidence in his new surroundings and situation, his anxiety has decreased dramatically. Every day he is more confident and comfortable. His foster mom dubs him a “world champion cuddler.”
While life threw Baxter a curve ball, he’s adjusting well and his super-sweet personality is shining through. He’s looking for a new family to call his own, so, if you’re in the market for a fantastic cuddler who enjoys a good game of ball-throwing, ask about Baxter. He’s guaranteed to make you feel loved!
