Original: “Basil is a small guy with a beautiful long tail who is in great shape and just loves to be loved.”
Basil came to MAESSR with his brother, Crispin, after their Virginia owner died. He was raised on a horse farm in a yard with an electric fence. Basil is a small guy with a beautiful long tail who is in great shape and just loves to be loved. He will follow his person everywhere.
Basil is sweet and gets along with the neighborhood children. He is happy to meet other dogs and has no reactivity. He is an inquisitive boy who is always exploring. He does not go far and comes as soon as he is called, but has to be watched outside because he will wander over to a neighbor’s house. In the home, he stays close by his person’s side and does what he is told.
This older gent does not play with any toys and will sleep all day. He is an older dog and has limited energy. He has excellent house manners, no chewing, counter-surfing or furniture hopping for this guy. He walks well on a leash but is a bit nervous when children come up to him and will shake while he is petted. New things also make him nervous; he responds by just shaking and staying still.
In his original home, he had a door where he could go in and out as he pleased and has had a few accidents in his foster home if he does not get outside all day. He is fine all day in the house if his water is taken away. His foster mom stands outside with him and he walks around the yard to do his business. He is always right next to her and just might slip outside behind her when she exits
Basil sleeps on his bed in the bedroom. He had been raised with a gravity feeder, but now is fed two times a day and does not guard his resources. He travels well in the car and was great at the vet. His mom can touch him all over; he is a very trusting soul. He is fine if his folks leave in a car but if they leave him inside while they go outside to do yard work, he will howl and scratch the door.
Basil needs a furever home that will take him (and hopefully his brother, Crispin.) He will make a great family pet who will greet his people with love every day. Or, you could double your pleasure with these two loves!!
