Original: “He’s got ‘sit’ and ‘come’ down pat and is proud of it!”

Bandit was originally purchased at two months old by a wonderful New Jersey couple who previously owned a Springer. Shortly after Bandit become a part of their family, a father of one of the owners was diagnosed with a terminal illness, requiring the couple to spend their time caring for him. The owners made a selfless choice to call MAESSR to ensure that Bandit could romp in a home with a family able to devote lots of time and energy to this sweet little boy.

Bandit is not yet housetrained, although he is doing his best and learning quickly. Sometimes, he stands by the door to signal he wants to go out. Other times, he’ll play outside for hours failing to do “his business,” signal to go inside, and minutes later choose the hardwood floors over the green, green grass! He’ll get there…he’s still learning.

Crate-trained, Bandit will spend up to three hours in his crate daily. At night, he sleeps like a baby seven to eight hours in his crate. He gets plenty of time outside and loves to fetch balls and sticks. This sweet boy also loves to run in circles, making his foster mom dizzy with his speed and agility. Tug-of-war is also a favorite – watch out for his sharp baby teeth!  Bandit loves to dig in the dirt, sniff in bushes, and listen to the sounds of squirrels scurrying through the trees.

Being the small fellow that he is, Bandit stays close to his foster mom and dad, never letting them out of his sight. He is timid in the company of people he does not know and frightened of dogs big and small. Bandit truly wants to grow into his huge white paws so he’ll no longer be frightened by other dogs. He has not yet encountered a cat. He is cautiously exploring the Jersey Shore while learning to walk on a leash and is doing a great job. Bandit  knows his limits…he will stop, turn toward home, and sit when he’s two or three blocks from home, signaling to his foster mom that he’s too scared to explore the world any further that day. 

He’s got “sit” and “come” down pat and is proud of it! He’s still learning to give his paw and to lie down. He hasn’t yet been intrigued by the trash but is doing his best to jump up on furniture he’s still too small to conquer. Bandit is fed in the kitchen and cleans his bowl every time.

Bandit loves car rides, generally falling asleep within a short time. He has done well at the vet and has not yet had experience at the groomer. Bandit loves toys that “squeak” and a plastic hamburger, orange lamb, and furry squirrel are his favorites. He chews inappropriately (he’s a puppy, of course) with shoelaces and pant legs as his first choice. A real love bug, Bandit loves to cuddle on a foster parent’s chest like a baby that needs to burp. He’ll put his front paws around the neck and gently lick his parent’s face. This boy is a sweetheart and will surely steal anyone’s heart!

It is important for potential adopters to understand that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes.  Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things!  The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.  To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Since Bandit is such a smart pup, he should be a star pupil.

An adorable, energetic pup, Bandit needs a forever home that is willing to spend time training him and playing with him. A family with a large fenced yard, or a family willing to exercise Bandit regularly, would be ideal. Bandit will surely make his forever home the happiest home ever – he is one special Springer.
