Original: “Mr. B.’s original home didn’t have a fenced yard, and as long as he was supervised there, he didn’t go roaming. He loves his people and just wants to be near them.”
When Bailey’s Virginia family had an adult child move back in with them bringing a 2 year old, Bailey showed some resource guarding of the owners and gave some minor grumbles at the 2 year old. With another grandchild on the way soon, the very difficult decision to turn Bailey over to MAESSR was made.
This handsome young guy is completely housetrained He lived with a lab in his prior life and has been fine with the three resident sighthounds in his foster home who don’t particularly care that he likes to be a bit up close and personal with his sniffing habits. He’ll flop on a cold hard floor on his own or occasionally borrow one of his foster sibling’s thin dog beds. Since his foster mom works from home and the trio of residents ask to go out every few hours in rotation, Bailey’s signal to go out is still unknown; but since he’s had no accidents, the schedule seems to work for him.
Bailey was crated his first few nights in foster care mainly because he and the resident imp were moving dog beds around and bothering the other two residents. He was quiet about crating. Since then, he’s been mellower about redecorating and hasn’t needed to be crated; he just sleeps on an extra dog bed or the floor. When the foster folks are away, he’s treated like the resident dogs and gated out of the kitchen.
A good boy in general, Bailey doesn’t counter-surf, rarely jumps up, knows “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “give paw.” He doesn’t chew inappropriate things. Reportedly he used to pick up and carry around shoes, but in his foster home, he just picks up a stuffed animal occasionally. His leash manners could be better but he settles after a bit of “wow, we get to go out.” He doesn’t fence jump, and a little minor panting on car rides is his “road trip” attitude. He’s starting to play chase with the resident hounds. No resource guarding of food or toys as of yet. Bailey loves being brushed, pants a little with vet type situations but generally is easy to handle.

With Bailey’s background of an occasional grumble when smaller kids come running up to him and his cautious nature about strangers, he’d probably do best in a situation without many surprises. He’s loving and openly affectionate to those he knows, is good for car rides, slowly warms up to new situations and likes other dogs. He’ll make someone a wonderful companion.
