Original: “It’s obvious that his prior owner and favorite person was male because he gravitates to his foster dad, wagging away when he comes home from work and flopping in the floor nearby while all the rest of the dogs hang elsewhere.”
Bailey came to MAESSR after his Maryland family divorced and his male owner was working long hours with the Bailey spending too much time alone. When his original foster mom had some health issues, he switched foster homes and settled right in.
Despite being 11, Bailey seems in really good health, having had everything done correctly his whole life. Even his teeth are sparkling clean and looking years younger than his actual age. Though he’s a little slow on stairs and when he initially gets up in the morning, he doesn’t seem to have any issues other than some hearing loss. Or is he just ignoring his foster folks when they’re saying it’s time to come out of the living room when they’re going out? He sleeps on his bed in the breakfast nook at night and hangs out with only the kitchen door closed while folks are away. No counter-surfing, trash-diving or any of that nonsense from Mr. Bailey. Good boy!
Bailey is completely housetrained, making little whimpering noises by the back door when he wants to go out. He knows “sit” and “down,” is good on leash, and likes car rides, instantly settling in the back to watch the world go by.
On an evening visit to a local state park, Bailey walked right into the creek and then surprised his foster folks by being inspired by the water and wanting to do his little hobby horse canter down the paved trail. He’s gotten along fine with the resident dogs, including two males. Though not initiating play, he does seem to get the concept and may start playing once his settles in a bit. When the neighbor’s cat was sunning on a nearby step, Bailey just ignored him.
It’s obvious that his prior owner and favorite person was male because he gravitates to his foster dad, wagging away when he comes home from work and flopping in the floor nearby while all the rest of the dogs hang elsewhere. He’s fine with everyone, just a little biased towards guys. This handsome fellow draws smiles and compliments on his looks whenever he goes out. Gentle and quiet, other than an occasional “talking” woof when he’s trying to communicate that it’s nearly dinner time, Bailey will make someone a fine companion.
