It’s amazing how long-legged springers can look as they approach 6 months of age……:))……..but like all the rest, Bailey will grow into his legs and be even more handsome than he is right now. He is in very good health and is a happy, sociable youngster. He was relinquished to MAESSR by owners who found having an energetic pup as well as other dogs in their home was a bit too much.
There is lots going on in Bailey’s foster home to give him an outlet for his abundant energy, so he is going great! He is living with 2 children, ages 4 and 8, and 3 resident dogs. He loves to play tug with all the 2- and 4-legged kiddos. There is also a resident cat in Bailey’s home that he generally does well with, which in this case, includes chasing it at times. What a sport this cat must be!!! Bailey also loves to play with tennis balls and a Kong toy and is not guarding any of his resources.
Bailey does very well with everyone and everything he meets. His family took him to the home of in-laws on Christmas day and he was the perfect little house guest. Everyone could not believe he was only 5 months old and so well behaved. They wanted to adopt him on the spot!
Basic training is well underway for this pup. He is crate trained and spends time there when his family is not home and at night. He is house trained and signals by scratching at a glass sliding door to let his family know he has to go out. His indoor manners are quite good. The only counter-surfing he does is to prompt his foster mom that she needs to get his treat a little quicker; then, he will get down when told to. He is not trash diving and only gets upon furniture when led into temptation by the rest of his pack – and again, he will get down when corrected. Bailey has learned some commands: sit, down, shake, and go potty. And, yep, like a lot of springers his age, he does pull on his leash when out for walks, making this training one that his family is working on with him regularly.
Bailey is great when it comes to hopping in the car for travel with his family. He does like to feel included. This will come in handy for he will be traveling to basic obedience classes with his forever family, a requirement of MAESSR adoptions when a dog is under one year. Bailey still has some growing to do as well as some learning to do, but he has a fine start and will make an active family one terrific companion!
