Update 05/23/10:
Bailey is a wonderful dog who has acclimated well to foster life. He has the sweetest look of expectation when that leash comes into view, and, he walks very well on it. He gets along well with everyone he meets– young and old, male and female. He has met children as young as 3 years and 15 months and loved them, giving all kinds of kisses. Several people who have met him have said that, if they didn’t already have dogs of their own, they would love to keep him. He has made quite an impression, a handsome gentleman!
He walks in the mornings with a group of 5 dogs– four male and one female. The dogs all get along and Bailey minds his own business. He looks forward to the walk and hops in the car readily when he goes to meet the group.
In the house Bailey is trustworthy and seems to spend his time alone napping like a good boy. He enjoys the company of people but does not insist on constant attention. He’s quite content to snooze nearby or keep his foster family company around the yard. He has never attempted escape nor tried to chew or dig.
Bailey is a wonderful, young-at-heart senior who has years of companionship to share with people who will offer him regular, moderate activity. What better way to start the day than to have a standing walking date with Bailey and friends. He’ll gladly embrace someone new on the other end of his leash to love and be out and about with. Can’t you just see that being you!?!
Original:
Bailey’s owners felt they could not give him and his housemate Brady the time they deserved due to a busy family life with a two year old; so, both Springers came into MAESSR’s care. Both have obviously lived the good life. Good times will continue for them since MAESSR will make sure the second phase of their lives will be filled with happy days of butt-wiggling rubs and snuggles in their forever homes.
Bailey was given a good bill of health at the vet and is now neutered. He does have a little stiffness sometimes in his hindquarters and currently has a spot on his paw where he has licked it raw. He is being treated with a topical ointment to help clear that up.
Adjustment to his foster home has gone well for Bailey and he has been a well-behaved boy. He rests at his foster mom’s feet most of the day while she works and he gets excited for walks, rides in the car, and visitors. When the doorbell rings, Bailey barks, but welcomes visitors happily. If his people need to go somewhere in the car, he is happy to accompany them as a well-mannered passenger. For Bailey, leash walks are filled with a satisfied contentment of good smells and fresh air. He walks well on a long leash, pulling occasionally when something smells too good to pass up. The short leash doesn’t allow him enough room to sniff, and he does pull on the shorter leash. Overall, though, he’s a pleasant walking companion. He also enjoys sniffing around the yard. This very well-mannered boy knows sit, down, stay (sort of), and come.
Bailey is totally housetrained and has lovely house manners. He is not a chewer, nor has he had any accidents in the house. Although he would enjoy a spot next to his human on the couch or bed, he understands those are off-limit to him in his foster home. At mealtime he has not begged at the table, but he did have one counter-surfing incident. Hey, no boy is perfect! Although he is not crate trained, there has been no reason to confine him when his foster family goes out since Bailey has been so trustworthy in the house. He does seem anxious being left alone, though. His foster mom has spied a little and Bailey seems to bark and look for her in her absence. He would love for his human to spend much of the day home with him.
In foster care, Bailey has been great with all the people he has met, both male and female, and with the dogs he has met on walks and the vet. His foster family’s youngest son is twelve and Bailey’s patient, gentle demeanor has made them friends. Thus far, Bailey has not had any exposure to younger children or with cats since coming to MAESSR. Considering Bailey’s former canine housemate had been twelve, he has accommodated the adolescent antics of the young resident Springer fairly well. There have been a few angry moments between the two since the young dog has made sure Bailey does not overstep the resident’s authority. Bailey showed some possessiveness with a high value treat of a pig ear and scuffled with the resident Springer when he got too close. In his forever home, Bailey would probably get along with another mellow dog, but his foster mom’s guess is he would love his people all to himself.
Bailey allowed his foster mom to clip his furry feet and he loves to be brushed and petted. He really enjoys human attention and is quick to move close to his people to snuggle and cuddle. Although Bailey has a few favorite toys which he carries around with him, he has not shown interest in playing ball. Toys are okay, but attention from people is better!
This sweet, mature Springer has the happiest smile, the most soulful eyes, the longest ears, and a big heart with lots of love to give. How about sharing your life with Bailey?
