Original: As a puppy Bailey was given as a gift to an older couple who didn’t want a dog and found his energy too much for them. A nice couple rescued him last October when he was about to go to a shelter. They soon realized that not enough hours at home and a bad back did not afford Bailey the exercise he needs to be a calm dog, so he came into MAESSR’s care.
Bailey will go in his crate and settles down once there. His foster mom is alternating between taking him to work to be around more people and leaving him home with the resident dogs. He is a typical Velcro dog and wants to be with someone all the time. His foster mom has introduced him to many new people at work and he has won the hearts of many of her colleagues. He is a very special boy!
Keeping the neighborhood squirrels in line and being out in the backyard is what Bailey loves to do. He is not a barker (except for the squirrels!!) and he doesn’t dig. Like squirrels, Bailey enjoys keeping cats in line, too, and chased them in his previous home. His foster mom is working on leash manners with him, and he has progressed to not pulling with a pinch collar. He does have a quirk about putting his leash on. He runs to hide, so his foster mom is trying to make a game out of fetching his leash. He gets along great with the resident dogs and he’s very friendly with the other male foster in the home. They play for hours until they collapse from exhaustion.
Bailey does not counter surf, but he will pick out of the trash can and chew anything he finds in there. At night, he sleeps in the bedroom on a bed with the other dogs in the house. He loves carrying his stuffed toys and having balls thrown. He will bring them back and drop them into the lap of his playmate. He would probably be great at playing Frisbee with a little training. He is a gentle boy who does not appear to have a mean bone in his body! Bailey is a beautiful springer who needs someone who will exercise and train him to be a well-mannered dog. He’s really over the puppy stage, and with love and positive discipline, will be a wonderful companion!
