Original: Babe is a beautiful Springer girl who is adjusting to becoming a domesticated family member. She came to MAESSR via a gentleman who had obtained her from a breeder. Unfortunately, due to health issues, the elderly gentleman could not care for Babe, and she found herself spending most of her time in a crate. Heartbroken, but keeping Babe in mind, the gentleman relinquished her to MAESSR knowing she would find a loving home that would be able to care for her better.
Part of being integrated into a family involves learning basic commands and social skills and Babe’s foster parents are helping her learn these necessities. Coming right along with her housetraining, she is beginning to signal when she needs to go out. Actually, she is quite trustworthy and when unsupervised, she has full access to the house. One extremely nice thing that she has learned about living inside is the joy of climbing up on the couch! At night, she sleeps on the floor next to the bed, though. This is often the place where her foster parents find her napping during the day as well. Babe is gradually learning that raiding the trash is not something that responsible Springer girls do; right now, she does trash dive when she gets the chance.
A happy spirit, Babe likes to carry soft toys or a knotted rope toy with her, and chases after toys when they are tossed to her. She is also learning to play with the resident Springers, something she had been timid about at first. Babe still has timid tendencies with new noises, new people, and new situations. As she gets used to living in a house and having new adventures, this will probably dissipate. She has already learned to accept treats offered to her.
Babe is most herself when she is feeling secure in her foster home and with her foster family near her. She sometimes has concerns venturing outdoors but is improving. She enjoys riding in the car and is a good passenger. However, the walk to get in the car seems traumatic for her and sometimes she has to be carried to the vehicle. On walks, she will pull back on her lead if her person is heading in a direction that she is not feeling secure in.
Watch for more on Babe as she comes out of her shell more! She’s well on her way to becoming a beloved family member.
