Axel is a very cute, energetic young Springer that was bought from a pet shop in Pennsylvania and had lived with his previous family since puppyhood. About a year ago his family had a baby girl and their exercise and play time with Axel diminished. Still, Axel was usually very good with this new addition to the family, even allowing her to crawl all over him. However, when she began walking, Axel snipped at her. Realizing that this situation was not good for the baby nor for Axel, the family felt it would be best to rehome their young Springer with MAESSR’s help.
Totally housetrained and also crate trained, Axel has full run of the house at all times in his foster home. He will counter-surf if given a chance, but his foster parents are careful to keep counters free of tempting food. Axel does not chew inappropriately; he does like his squeaky toys, though. He will bark to alert and in his youthful enthusiasm will jump up on people in greeting. His foster parents are teaching him that Springers need to keep four on the floor to say hello to people.
Axel gets along well with the resident and foster dogs engaging them in play and chase. He has also been exposed to cats and is generally good with them although he will chase his feline friends but does not try to harm them.
Even though he has not had any formal obedience training, Axel knows “sit” and “down.” At the beginning of a walk, he will pull on the leash. Obedience training lessons would be a fun and beneficial activity for Axel and his forever family. It’s a great bonding experience also.
Still a puppy at heart, Axel enjoys playing fetch and tug-of-war and don’t forget those squeaky toys! He has been to the groomers and was okay with the spa procedures. This boy doesn’t have any temperament issues.
Axel is receiving an inexpensive supplement to help with anxiety over the changes in his life. It has made a big difference in his confidence. He spent an entire day playing with his foster mom’s seven year old grandson. They both had a lot of fun!
