Update 10/14/2024: “The decision was made to send her to the bridge so she could run wild and free without pain.”
Ava had been living a pretty good life with her foster parents, but she was slowing down. Her heart issues were getting worse. To complicate things, an anal tumor was discovered that was partially blocking her output. Surgery was an impossibility because her heart was that bad and she was starting to get more uncomfortable. The decision was made to send her to the bridge so she could run wild and free without pain.
Her foster mom says, “Ava, we miss you. You were a special little girl.”
Original: “She is quickly adjusting to life inside her foster parents’ home and has already found her favorite place to be—on the sofa!”
Ava came to MAESSR with her sister Zsa Zsa from a Virginia breeder who was downsizing her program.
Ava is a Sproodle (Springer/Poodle mix) who had lived in a kennel environment all of her life. She is quickly adjusting to life inside her foster parents’ home and has already found her favorite place to be—on the sofa! She is learning.
Everything about living in a house was new to her. To help her in this transition, Ava is receiving an anxiety medication which has helped a lot with her fear. This sweet girl wants love and attention; sadly, she is just initially afraid of it.
When Ava went to the vet for a checkup, she was found to have a congenital patent ductus arteriosis (PDA) with significant remodeling of the heart. Generally, dogs with a PDA do not live past the age of one year. Unfortunately, there is not anything her vet and her foster family can do to help this condition because the body has made so many changes to itself to keep her alive.
Ava is amazing! Nothing slows her down. Ava loves to run and play and is learning to walk on a leash. The decision was made to allow Ava to live out the rest of her life in her foster home.
Please keep Ms. Ava in your thoughts.
