Original: “This Ever-Ready Bunny is always on the go.”
Ava, formerly known as Puppy A, was one of 12 puppies in her litter! Her sister, Miss Bee (Puppy B) and she were the last two to be placed. Their Maryland breeder had a surgery date looming so she contacted MAESSR to find homes for these sweet little girls.
Ava has two foster brothers and a sister who are teaching her the basics about being an inside dog, like going potty outside. She has had a few accidents so housetraining is a work in progress. To signal her need to go out she runs in circles.
“Load up” is the word for her to get in her crate. Her meals are served there and that is where she sleeps at night or when her foster parents aren’t home. Please don’t forget the cookies. If Ava loads up, she gets a cookie!
This Ever-Ready Bunny is always on the go. Although Ava wasn’t used to being inside, she loves it now. In her curiosity and eagerness, she has placed her paws on the counter to hurry foster mom up when she is preparing dog meals. The trash can is tucked away and she has not yet become acquainted with it. She does enjoy the couch or bed when it is time to lounge around the house. Ava has lots of toys so she hasn’t chewed on anything inappropriate, but she has been known to carry a shoe around. After all she is a puppy!
This smart girl knows her name and comes when called. Foster mom has trusted her off leash in the fenced yard with the resident Springers. Being with her people and foster brothers and sister is where Ava likes to be! Leash walking was something new but she is mastering it with no issues. And foster mom can walk three dogs at a time! For additional commands she is learning “off” and “potty.” If she slows down enough, she might work on “sit.” “Stay” is not in her vocabulary at this point. Ava thinks the car is okay but it does make her a bit nervous.
Please note that MAESSR will require Ava’s adoptive family to take her through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.
Play…absolutely! When, where and all day is fine with Ava. She just loves her younger foster brother who is 11 months old and a barrel of fun. Her foster sister is 2 and fun as well. Both are wonderful playmates! Ava’s older foster brother is 11 and she totally respects his nap time. Nothing worse than a grumpy old man!
Ball or anything thrown is Ava’s favorite game. She has it all figured out: her person throws it and she brings it back and repeat! Ava knows that she can chase her foster brother and sister but no chasing people.
Speaking of people, Ava is a little shy when she meets new people but all they have to do is give her a cookie or throw her ball and they are friends.
Excellent is what they said at the vet about Ava– behavior and health. People can touch her feet and ears and look in her mouth; it’s all good. Ava will be spayed at the end of August and then she will be ready for her forever home.
Ava’s dream home would have people that enjoy a high energy, loving, Velcro Springer. A fenced yard would be best so she can run and her people must have good pitching arms. Another dog to play would be fun but Ava would not be opposed to being an only dog if her people would keep her entertained. Cuddle and snuggle time should be included in her new family’s to-do list as well.
If you are a fun-loving, active person that can throw a ball, Ava is your girl.
She says, “Pick me!”
