Update 01/09/2013: “The vet could not believe what great shape this girl is in for being 11 years old, including her teeth.”
With a little time to settle into her foster home, Autumn was ready to make the customary visit for a health check. She went this week and was an EXCELLENT patient! The vet could not believe what great shape this girl is in for being 11 years old, including her teeth. They are just beautiful! All of Autumn’s bloodwork came back good with no problems, including healthy thyroid levels. Terrific news for this gal! She rode very well in the car on the way to the vet but got a little car sick on the way home. For future rides her foster mom would say it may be best if Autumn is given something to keep her tummy settled.
Autumn is one GREAT dog! Her foster mom openly admits that if she had room in her little house for one more resident dog, Autumn would be staying. Simply put………Autumn is a KEEPER! Whether you’re ready to adopt your first springer, or, are adding one more to fill a niche in your home and heart, Autumn would be a wonderful choice. Ask about meeting her and you’ll quickly realize she’s a keeper too!
Original: “Autumn is a big, strong girl and likes to play rough at times but calms down when told ‘easy.’ “
Autumn had been with her original family since the age of 10 weeks. She came to MAESSR when her family found her to be a bit too big and increasingly nervous around their small children. Autumn’s discomfort around the children may be explained as part of aging and some possible hearing loss; thus, she was being startled easily and reacting when she didn’t know the little ones were coming near her. This behavior has not been noticed in her foster home, but her foster family can see that Autumn is a very sound sleeper. It has been found best to clap your hands or call her name very loudly when approaching her.
Although Autumn is 10 years “young,” you would never know this. She still loves to play ball, go for long walks and play in the snow! Autumn is also a great cuddler and “furry blanket” when taking naps. She is completely housetrained and displays wonderful indoor manners. When this beauty needs to go outside, she will go to the door and give you a cry as her “I need to potty” signal. Autumn has not been given the opportunity to trash pick but, on a few occasions, there has been a plate with food left on the table and she did not touch it……… good girl, Autumn! She has only put her feet on the counter a few times when she saw another dog do it but has never been the initiator of this mischief. She diplomatically and quickly puts her paws back on the floor when told “off.”
Autumn is a wonderful house-guest and sleeps through the night on her blanket, although she really likes to cuddle with her humans in their bed! She has not gotten onto any of the furniture unless invited. This girl also does not beg for food and waits her turn for treats and takes them very gently. There has been no aggression observed with food or toys, though she does like to talk and grumble when she plays. Autumn is a big, strong girl and likes to play rough at times but calms down when told “easy.” Another thing that Autumn likes to do is put herself between your legs to get her back scratched. This she loves!
In her foster home Autumn is residing with several other dogs and two cats and there have been no issues among them. She gets along with everyone and seems particularly smitten with one of the resident males!
Her surrendering family shared that Autumn experiences motion sickness when going for car rides and needs a mild sedative to keep her tummy quiet. With a visit to the vet coming up soon, first-hand info will be coming on that.
Watch for more on Autumn in the upcoming weeks………
