Original:“He is learning ‘no’ and ‘wait’ as [his sister] finishes her dinner.”
Before a Springer breeder in Virginia died, she specified that she wanted MAESSR to place the dogs in her kennel. One of the females was pregnant when she came into foster care and she subsequently gave birth to six puppies. Artemisia or Arty is one of this litter and he is now ready to find his new home.
Is that puppy breath wafting through the air? Indeed! Arty and his littermates are enjoying life as puppies should—playing and eating and sleeping.
A robust eater, Arty is always the first one to finish his dinner and then turns his direction to his sister’s bowl. He is learning “no” and “wait” as she finishes her dinner.
Arty and his siblings recently went to the vet so they have now had their first and second puppy shots. He will be neutered by the end of October.
Arty and his siblings play with a ton of toys. Their wrestling and playing can get a bit rough but that is when one of the older resident dogs steps in for some corrective actions. Arty is very vocal and lets his person know that he is not pleased about something. He sleeps well in the crate but fusses in the morning about being left alone without his people all night.
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
The pups are doing well with pads and going outdoors. More and more of their elimination is happening outside and not in. Soon Arty and his siblings will understand that outside is the only acceptable place to pee and poop.
Let some of that sweet puppy breath waft into your face while you are smothered in puppy kisses. Make baby Arty yours!
