Arleigh came to MAESSR from a Virginia family as the result of a divorce. His family was brokenhearted, but they could no longer afford to care for Arleigh properly. Arleigh had grown up with their young son and thought kids were the most wonderful people on the planet.
Once in his foster home Arleigh laid on the sofa for the first four days. After four days, he decided to get up and find out what his new life was all about. He learned how to use the doggy door very quickly and he now keeps an eye on everything inside and outside. Arleigh LOVES to play with his tennis ball and is smart enough to not drop it at his foster mom’s feet. He knows one of those crazy other dogs will take it and he will not get it back! He gently hands it to her so she can throw it again.
Arleigh has wonderful house manners and loves to cuddle on the sofa with you. He will constantly try to get in the car so you can take him for a ride. This sweet boy also likes to get into bed with his foster dad to take a nap.
About two years ago, Arleigh was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. This affliction affects the endocrine system and is treatable.
Arleigh’s current treatment is a shot in the muscle of Percorten V every 25 days. The shot can easily be given by his adoptive family. A bottle of Percorten V costs approximately $160. The bottle lasts for 2 1/2 shots. Arleigh is also on a low dose of prednisone. This is an inexpensive medication and he gets a pill every day. The total average cost of his medications per month is about $75. As long as Arleigh is maintained on his medication, he should have a normal life and normal life expectancy.
Please don’t let the Addison’s diagnosis keep you from adopting a WONDERFUL dog!!! Arleigh is a perfect dog for families and is ready for one of his very own again.
