07/16/2014: “Aria would fit in well in any household but her dream family would be one with a lot of time for love and cuddles.”
Aria continues to do well in her foster home and is a very happy girl. In fact, when happy, she will sing a little, usually while she eats her dinner. She has a good appetite and loves her food. This beauty now knows to sit for treats and wait her turn so further training should be a breeze.
She has had a couple of accidents in the house, and her foster parents are working on that with her. She has trouble focusing sometimes, and when out for “potty,” just wants to go back into the house. She is a serious homebody!
Aria gets along well with the other dogs but has no real interest in playing. She will follow them into the yard if they are barking at something but comes right back inside. Her foster family recently discovered that she has interest in tennis balls; she’ll sometimes chase one and bring it right back!
At the vet and the groomer Aria charmed everyone. Similarly, recent dinner guests were greeted with one quick bark followed by kisses and cuddles. Although she is still a bit apprehensive in new situations, with encouragement (and treats) she is ready to take on new challenges.
Aria would fit well in any household, but her dream family would be one with a lot of time for love and cuddles. She might make a good therapy dog someday. She will sit in a lap for hours, giving a gentle paw if one dares to stop petting her.
Would this beautiful, peaceful singer be a welcome addition to your family? Would you like to help her training with treats and encouragement? Is Canine Good Citizen training in her future as a path to becoming a therapy dog? All things are possible with Aria!!
Original: “Aria is a low energy girl who would fit in any home environment; however, what she loves the most is people who are around all of the time to love and cuddle her.”
Aria came into MAESSR’s care when the Maryland kennel in which she had spent her entire life voluntarily closed. She has a wonderful temperament, is very loving and really enjoys being in a house setting.
She appears to be housetrained but needed to learn to use a dog door. She learned that skill in 10 minutes once treats were involved—what a smart cookie! She willingly goes in her crate when required but not on her own despite the always open door. She eats in her crate because she hasn’t learned not to bother the other dogs at meal time. During the day she has free rein of the house and yard with her two spaniel brothers and has proved to be totally trustworthy. Aria has not shown any signs of separation anxiety and seems to adapt easily to most situations. She sleeps in her crate in her foster parents’ bedroom and is calm and quiet all night—what a wonderful house guest she is.
This young lady is very food motivated and tries to counter-surf but is too small to see on the counters. She is being taught that getting on the sofa is not an acceptable behavior for dogs and that jumping on people is not good manners. She doesn’t chew anything, but has been caught carrying shoes to her bed to lie on them. After a week in her foster home she is starting to play with dog toys and tennis balls. Still, on the top of her list is cuddle time!
Aria has been trying to interact with the other dogs, and they are warming up to her. She has a good sense of dog etiquette and responds to the others’ signals. As the new girl in town, she is very respectful to the resident 16-year old Welsh Springer and will lie by him calmly to comfort him.
The only command Aria appears to know is “sit.” She is learning to walk on a leash and getting better every day. With her high food motivation, she would probably be the star of a positive reinforcement obedience class and learn new skills, behaviors, and commands quickly.
In the car, this beautiful gal just lies down and goes to sleep. She was the perfect patient on her initial vet visit, loved all the attention and did whatever was asked of her. She didn’t cry or fuss when she got her shots and microchip. The vet techs all commented on her wonderful disposition.
Aria is a low energy girl who would fit in any home environment; however, what she loves the most is people who are around all of the time to love and cuddle her. She loves snuggling and usually can’t get close enough. She would enjoy a doggie companion but would also be fine as an only dog.
MAESSR’s new sweet, gentle girl would be perfect for an elderly person and would do well in an apartment since she is quite the homebody. Above all, cuddle time with people is her number one requirement! Would you like to add this cuddle-bug to your family?
