Update 01/30/2024: “He loves fetching a ball!“
Archie is a great boy. He loves fetching a ball! Archie’s foster mom exercises him several times a day by throwing a ball in the yard so he can fetch. He returns the ball to her at her feet. There is no fenced yard, but Archie stays around the house, and he comes when he is called. Good boy! Archie will walk with his person when off a leash; he pulls a little when on a leash.
When inside, Archie is good all day when left alone, and he does not need to be crated. The food bowl is always out in the kitchen and Archie eats when hungry. If he needs to go outside Archie will nudge his foster mom while she is sitting. She will stand by the door and throw a ball into the yard a few times and Archie will do his business. Otherwise, he just sleeps in a doggie bed. He is not allowed on the furniture nor in the bed.
Archie shows no interest in other dogs who visit. He hears the neighbor dogs bark but does not investigate. On a walk he will sniff at the wildlife scents. He is good with all children.
A home with or without children would work fine for Archie. He needs a lot of exercise, so fetching a ball is a must several times a day. This very good boy would love to find his new home soon. Would he fit in with your pack?
Original: “Archie is sociable and good with new people and all children.”
Archie became a MAESSR boy when his Maryland family divorced and neither spouse had an appropriate living situation for him.
This tall, Fieldie is described as an awesome dog who is friendly and well behaved. He has lived with 3, 6 and 16 year old children and was originally raised on a farm. In his current foster home, Archie respects his boundaries and does not wander off. He has free run of the house and is frequently let outside to exercise by fetching a ball which he loves to retrieve. He has been known to climb a tree to fetch toys or fence to get out of a run. He has run next to the daughter’s horse when she was riding and gets along with the cows living near his foster home.
Archie is housetrained, well mannered indoors and knows basic commands. He has shown no signs of aggression or resource guarding. He walks well on leash with some pulling and responds well to the “heel” command. He has been trained and socialized from a young age, is comfortable being touched and bathed and behaves well at the vet and groomer. He was crate trained as a puppy and was allowed on furniture in his original home. This is not permitted in his foster home. He is nervous in the car but adjusts well. This handsome fellow loves water and swimming. He will lie in a puddle of water when he finds one at his foster’s farm.
Archie goes out every morning to urinate and do his business. He sleeps on a doggie bed in the bedroom. He eats from a bowl that is out all day with food.
Archie is sociable and good with new people and all children. He has some anxiety when left alone in his outdoor kennel but never when left alone in the house.
This happy Springer is looking for folks who would love to exercise him and play ball with him—and maybe take him swimming when the weather is warm. Will he fit in with your family?
