Original: Along with her daughter, Snapple, Apple came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in North Carolina. They had been adopted three years prior but were returned due to a divorce and the couple no longer being able to care for the mother/daughter pair.
Apple is heartworm positive and has undergone her first treatment. She will undergo a second treatment mid-September. Because of treatment, Apple’s activity is highly restricted. She has been handling the inactivity well, content to nap on her dog bed, chew on a rawhide, or sleep in her crate. If given the chance, however, it’s clear Apple would prefer to be outdoors running, playing fetch, or chasing and playing with Snapple. She loves to be around people, often following her foster mom and dad from room to room. She enjoys being petted and will roll over to get her belly rubbed.
She is mostly housetrained, though Apple has had a few accidents. They have all occurred near the back door where she is let out, so her family feels she knows to go outside but doesn’t know how to tell them she needs to go out. With a little more time to become fully acquainted, she will likely be completely trustworthy. When she goes out to the car for a road trip, Apple is a very good passenger. She sits calmly in the backseat and enjoys being chauffeured.
Apple’s curiosity and playfulness requires her to be on a leash when outside in the fenced-in backyard, as she has learned to climb the fence in a couple of escape attempts. She doesn’t mind the leash and is happy to explore the yard within her reach. Apple is currently crated when her foster mom and dad are away from home, since she will jump the baby gate, and has shown a tendency to counter surf and chew.
Apple is a very good girl who would love to find a family who has time to exercise her daily and give her lots of love and attention. She certainly is a sweetheart!!!
