Original: “When his folks are watching TV in the evening or sipping coffee on the porch in the morning, he can be found relaxing at his foster mom’s feet.”
Apollo was admitted to an animal shelter in Maryland when his original owner didn’t have the time or space to give Apollo the exercise, vet visits and attention he needed. The shelter called MAESSR, and this lucky guy found himself in a warm, happy foster home. He is slowly working through the stress caused by all the changes in his life and his prior neglect.
This handsome youngster has great manners in the house–exhibiting no marking or destruction; his counter-surfing is minimal and he responds to “no.” He will let one of his foster parents know when he needs to go out. He doesn’t chew anything but his toys and lies down when people are eating. Apollo sleeps on the floor at night but—typical Springer–occasionally ends up in bed.
Because he is underweight, Apollo is being fed three times a day; his foster mom can remove his food without any problem. Similarly, he’s not protective of toys and had a great time playing and rough housing with the lab next door. This guy loves to be with either his foster mom or dad. He becomes anxious when one leaves but quickly finds the other parent and settles down at his/her feet. When his folks are watching TV in the evening or sipping coffee on the porch in the morning, he can be found relaxing at his foster mom’s feet.
Apollo’s foster parents are working with him to learn obedience and basic commands (he’s getting better at “sit” every day); not to pull on leash; and how to relax in a crate. He’s getting 4-5 walks per day to get much needed exercise and help him manage his high-energy level. But, he is easily distracted and needs to learn leash manners. He’s good in the car—he rode for a long trip to attend the MAESSR picnic in May and a two hour trip to his foster home.
This happy boy did fine at the groomer’s while having his nails cut but didn’t like having his paws trimmed; however, he has no problem with his foster mom handling his paws. He was very anxious in the crate waiting for his foster mom to pick him up—so many new experiences and changes for this love.
Apollo is a young, strong-minded field Springer who wants to be part of an active, high energy family where people are home during the day and where he can get much needed exercise, discipline, and affection – he also needs multiple training series with a professional. He will need some further training before he becomes available for adoption. More to come on this boy who has so much potential!!
