Update 10/20/09: Antoinette continues to do well in her foster home. Her foster mom has been working hard to put some weight on her and is finally starting to see some improvement. It is believed that Antoinette always had to fight other dogs for her food, so she just got out of the habit of eating much. It has been a major battle to teach her to eat again.
Annie, as she has come to be known, loves to roam the backyard in her foster home looking for birds or other fun critters. It is such a treat to see her surveying her domain. She is one very sweet girl who needs a loving forever family that will make sure she eats enough.
Original: Antoinette was in a shelter in central Virginia and her situation was urgent. From her picture, it was believed that she was a Springer Spaniel. When she arrived at her foster home, her foster parents immediately knew that this sweet girl was actually an English Setter. MAESSR tries hard to only take in purebred Springers, but sometimes it just does not turn out that way. Antoinette immediately became a member of the MAESSR family.
Judging from the condition of her coat and skin, it is believed that Antoinette lived mostly outside. However, this lover girl has not had any accidents in her foster home. She is also crate trained and does well when left there when her foster family is not at home. Antoinette loves to search the back yard for something to “hunt” but also enjoys coming inside and hanging out. When she is being walked on the leash, she pulls a little and it seems she does not know any commands. Attending obedience classes with her new forever family would be wonderful for this girl to ensure that she will be an obedient family member who understands commands from her people. She is a great girl according to her foster mom!
Watch for updates as Antoinette spends more time in her foster home.
